This was the daily routine of Evangeline, an endless loop of self pity and frustration. Frustration at the constant repetition of life. There wasn't a day she couldn't predict, not because she was a witch and could see the future but because she knew the mandate routine of every human being.
They always did the same thing over and over, as though there weren't a million things to do on Earth. Luckily she wasn't the only supernatural creature succumbed to the torture of living in the human world. Everywhere she went she saw creatures of all fairytales such as vampires, werewolves, elves, fairies, goblins, you name it.
Of course they couldn't tell she was a witch. She blended so easily with humans, she even rarely used her magic in fear of being found out. After some time she forfeited her powers and lived entirely like a human. But she didn't counteract for how frustrating and boring being human was. She missed using her powers freely, joining in battles and letting loose without fear of losing control of her powers.
She missed the scent of fresh blood as she paved paths of dead bodies wherever she went. She was a delicate flower on the battlefield, dancing her way through bloodshed. Her feet light as a feather, her mind straight as an arrow, she was a war machine on the battlefield and not once has she ever lost in a fight. This earned her the title of The Wicked Witch. A fitting name for her terrifying powers.
But if containing her powers was what was needed to keep her loved ones safe then she would endure it with a smile on her face, or in her case a permanent scowl. And the one horrifying thing about this whole ordeal, was the fact that she had never once ran into a single Witch in all her many years on Earth.
"Witches don't like going near Canada, it drains their magic." Her mother had told her once on a call.
Unfortunately for her case, her powers magnified in amplitude.
Evangeline POV:
"Eve, can you please cancel my 2 O'clock appointment?" A pleading Rachelle asked.
"For when would you like to reschedule it?" I asked, not removing my eyes from the screen in front of me.
"Can you make it for Thursday 4pm, please and thank you." Rachelle beamed.
"Noted," I replied as I typed away on the keyboard.
Rearranging schedules was always a pain but I couldn't complain much because it was my job. I starting typing the email, my fingers moving at an inhuman pace. I had to slow them down. These few days my magic seemed to have a mind of its own, like all these years of suppressing it had finally caught up to me.
My magic seeped out without me even thinking about it, let alone casting a single spell. A witch needed to say an incantation to make a spell but lately that hasn't been the case for me. A lot of strange things have been happening to me, very strange things indeed. Perhaps staying on Earth for this long has finally had an effect on my powers.
"Earth to Eve," I was snapped out of my haze by a snap of Rachelle's fingers.
"It's Eva," I corrected.
"Right sorry Eva," she blushed, a warm light pink tinting her chubby cheeks.
I paid no mind to her rambling apology, she quickly scurried away. And just like that I was alone with my own thoughts and a mountain of paperwork to be completed.
The day passed in a blur and before I could even say "Bye", I was back in my apartment. The day was gone.
"Another one bites the dust" I laughed humourlessly.
I sighed in frustration, a hot rage brewed in my belly spreading to every inch of my body. I felt like a balloon being filled with water, and it only took me a few seconds to burst. Or in this case, for my powers to burst out of me like an energy surge. All the lights in the flat burst simultaneously, broken glass scattering everywhere.
If I didn't know my own powers I would've been scared shitless. But considering this happened to me everyday. I wasn't the least bit surprised. Just last week I managed to cause a power outage for my whole town.
A took a huge gulp of my glass of wine before I sighed in content, feeling a relaxing warmth spread through me. I waved my hand across the room and reversed time. I watched as the broken pieces of glass on the floor, floated back where they were before the lights shattered. An incarnation would normally be required for the spell to be done but all I had to do was wave my hand and think what I wanted to happen, strange right.
Such a thing had never occurred except for Luna Maximus. The only witch in history to not need a spell book to cast spells. She discovered this power when she was merely twenty years old and this power got to her head. She took advantage of her newfound powers and people feared what they couldn't understand. Hence her execution as people assumed she formed a contract with the devil which was forbidden.
There has never been a similar case, well that was until I was born. But I didn't plan on blabbering to anyone about my newfound gift or curse. I hadn't decided yet weather this was a good or bad thing. But it sure can get irritating with my short temper.
Every waking second I think of unimaginable things I want to come true and my magic tries to assist without my knowledge. Thankfully my mother sent me a bracelet to surprise my magic, in other words make me completely human. A price I was willing to take to escape the constant headache that came with suppressing my magic. A pain and a blessing.
The night flew by in an instant, all thanks to my Diemassal bottle that lay empty on the coffee table. It was the only thing that made human life more bearable and tolerable, I consumers about one bottle a night. Call me an alcoholic but it was my only escape, this escape had its consequences such as sleepless nights, dark bags under my eyes, short temper and a God awful headache that made me wish I never set foot on this planet.
The buzz I felt was one of the best feelings in the world. A feeling I relished in. A feeling that became an addiction. And just like that a week passed, then a month, then a year and that year turned to years. And that is how I needed up spending ten years trapped on Earth, an inescapable hell.
Well that was until I met HIM. A being so irritating I nearly had an aneurysm trying to contain my anger. Yet this anger inducing tyrant was the only thing that made my imprisonment on Earth more bearable.
