Prologue
The sky wore a shy shade of lavender, dipped in the last light of sunset. The air was warm but hushed, like even the wind was waiting to hear her answer.
He had lit a small trail of fairy lights, subtle, not cinematic. Just enough to make the moment glow as it belonged in a memory. She walked onto the rooftop like she always did - barefoot, with laughter tucked in the corner of her lips, wearing that rust-colored kurti he once said made her look like the sky at golden hour. Her anklets jingled softly against the silence he’d so carefully created.
There was no crowd, no cameras. Just a table, two mugs of chai, and a heart that was finally ready to speak. He didn’t kneel. He didn’t need to. His eyes were already begging.
“Mujhe nahi pata kab hua, lekin ho gaya.” (I don’t know when it happened, but it did.)
“Main aapse mohabbat karta hoon.” (I love you.)
She froze.And then smiled, slow, wide, soft.Like her soul had been waiting to hear those words.
But then, her smile faltered.Her brows knit.Her eyes dropped.
And before he could breathe in that smile fully,she whispered:
“No...”
