Chapter 1

Eva's pov

The sound of the tiny alarm clock blares through out the house. Her almond shape eyes, snapped wide open, flinging off the thin, torn blanket, Eva quickly reached for the alarm clock, turning it off before anyone in the house wakes up and beats her for disturbing their sleep.

Stretching her sore and tired limbs, a groan slipped from her lips. It's been weeks since she last remembered when she had a proper rest. Her body ached, especially her back, it wasn't completely healed, It was still a little bruised.

A lone tear rolled down her cheek, recalling how her mother had allowed her sister to beat her mercilessly for something which Sarah had done and pinned the blame on Eva.

It wasn't the first time this happened. She's quite used to the beatings and the hurtful words her family hurls at her

and yet she foolishly forgives them every time they abuse and humiliate her.

Eva was clueless. She didn't know as to why her family loathes her so much that they wish to make her life miserable. Maybe it's because she isn't smart enough, like her older sister Jasmine or she wasn't beautiful like her other sister, Sarah.

Eva constantly compares herself to her siblings, wishing why she's not like them, beautiful, strong and smart. She hates and blames herself for her family's hatred toward her. She thinks she's at fault that's why they treat her the way they do.

Reaching out for her glasses, besides her make shift bed. At the age of six, Eva was diagnosed with astigmatism, an eye disease which made it difficult for her to see.

It's also one of the reasons why she thinks her family hates her because she has a disability.

Slipping on her glasses, Eva rose from the floor and strode to the tiny bathroom to get ready for the day.

Stripping out of her clothes, she stood underneath the shower. She shivered as the ice cold water sliced through her skin, it felt like icy needles against her skin. It stung and prickled, the cold searing her as though she'd been kissed by frostbite.

She quickly stepped out of the bathroom

And slipped on a pair of black leggings and a hoodie. She tied her long, fiery red hair into a ponytail. On her way out she grabbed her backpack and rushed out of the room.

The house was awfully quite, normally by this time everyone would be up. Her parents would be getting ready to leave for work and her sisters would be getting ready for college.

but as she walked along the quiet hallway, she assumed everyone were still asleep.

Thank God!. Atleast today I can go to school without getting beaten. She thought.

But little did she realize she was in for a huge surprise.

Entering the kitchen, Eva paused at the entrance. Terror etched her features.

What's he doing here? And when did he get back from his trip? She wondered.

Her worse nightmare was here, seated at the table along with her sisters, giggling at something on the phone.

Dorian Thornfield, Jasmine's fiance.

Eversince jasmine had introduced Dorian to her parents, Dorian behaved inappropriately towards Eva. When nobody was looking or paying attention he'd touch her in places he wasn't allowed to and whisper filthy and inappropriate things to her.

She can still recall the very first day when she met the sleaze ball.

Nobody noticed her until, Dorian lifted his head up and locked gazes with her.

His lustfill gaze roamed her body, licking his lips.

Eva's stomach churned, she felt uncomfortable under his stare and wanted nothing more than to gorge out his eyeballs and shove it down his throat.

"Look who's up." Her sister, Sarah taunted with a glare.

"What are you standing there and gaping at!" Sarah snarled. "Prepare breakfast and make it fast or I'll snap your neck." She threatened.

Eva scrambled across the kitchen and quickly gathered the ingredients to prepare breakfast.

Standing near the stove, flipping pancakes while frying bacon and eggs. Was similar to the previous days. Staring at the food, Eva's mouth watered and stomach growled. She couldn't remember when was the last time she had a proper meal.

Laying the food on the table, Eva went to grab the juice from the refrigerator.

She suddenly stiffened when she felt him right behind her. He was pretending to take something from the refrigerator.

"Hmm... You smell amazing Eva." Dorian murmured in her ear.

Eva swallowed. She hated Dorian and the way he behaved toward her. She wished she could tell someone about his inappropriate behavior but then she remembered she can't speak.

Since the age of seven Eva stopped talking, she had lost her voice due to the constant abuse.

and if she could tell her family what a filthy sleaze ball Dorian is nobody would believe her because everyone in her family adored and worshipped the ground he walked on.

Dorian comes from a weathly background, his father owns many properties, estates and businesses and Eva's family treats him like a god, they worship the ground he walks on.

Eva moved away from the refrigerator and tried to put up some distance between them. Placing the juice onto the table, he returned to the table and drew out the chair where Eva stood.

As Eva began pouring the juice trying hard to ignore Dorian's presence until she felt his hands roam up her leg.

Sarah and Jasmine was to busy to notice what was going on infront of them.

Dorian's hand began moving higher and higher, his fingers trailing dangerously closer, Eva jumped, the carton juice slipped from her fingers, falling onto the floor.

Both her sister's head snapped toward her.

Jasmine shot up from her seat and stood infront of Eva.

Thud

Jasmine struck Eva across her face. Eva's eyes glistened with unshed tears.

"Can't you do something properly?" Jasmine scowled, shoving Eva on the floor.

From her peripheral vision Eva caught Dorian smirking.

"Leave her Jasmine, the poor thing is shaking like a leaf." He mused.

"Goodmorning girls, Dorian." Celeste's voice rang in the air.

Celeste paused, sensing the tension in the air. Her eyes darting from Dorian to her daughter's.

"What's going on? " She asked, her voice low.

Jasmine huffed, crossing her arms, her gaze fixated on Eva.

"It seems the beating you've given her wasn't enough."

"What has she done now?" Celeste sighed.

"Look!" Jasmine pointed toward the floor.

Celeste glared at Eva. "What did I tell you about wasting in this house you filthy little piece of trash!" Celeste roared.

Fear paralyzed her.

Eva felt like her heart was about to explode

Out of her chest, her terror making impossible to breathe.

The one person Eva feared the most was her mother. Her beatings was the worst compared to her sister's. Celeste always gave Eva the harshest punishment which left scars on her body as a constant reminder of her mother's hatred toward her.

Dorian suddenly stood up. "She made a mistake, let her go." He said, glancing at Eva. "I'm sure she's probably learnt her lesson by now, is that so Eva?"

Eva nodded, wiping her tear stained face.

"You're lucky." Celeste sneered, crossing her arms. "And thanks to Dorian saving you from being beaten by my hands."

I really like how you handled the tension in this chapter, especially the dialogue, it feels natural. Curious to see where this goes next.
