Chapter 1
Clara sat on the couch, her arms crossed, watching her little brother Jamie drag a dusty box from the attic. She rolled her eyes and muttered,“You’re so annoying.”Jamie ignored her,his small hands trembling as he opened the box.The board inside was strange, covered in symbols that shimmered faintly.Clara snatched a piece from his hand and laughed,“This looks stupid.”Jamie frowned but placed the board on the floor anyway.A card slid out,its letters glowing faintly:Tell your fear and the game will listen.Jamie whispered,“I’m scared of the dark.”
The board pulsed,as if it had swallowed his words.Clara smirked and refused to say anything, her silence sharp like a blade. The room grew colder, but nothing else happened.Jamie looked at her nervously and asked,“Aren’t you going to say yours?”She snapped,“I don’t have one.”The board dimmed, its glow fading into silence.Clara shoved the box aside and stood up.“This is boring,”she muttered.Jamie frowned but followed her upstairs. They brushed their teeth, changed into pajamas, and climbed into bed.Clara turned off the light, rolling her eyes at Jamie’s fear of the dark.“Don’t cry,”she said sharply.
Jamie whispered,“But what if the game is real?”Clara laughed,“You’re such a baby.”The house grew quiet, shadows stretching across the walls.Clara closed her eyes, ignoring Jamie’s trembling voice. The night pressed heavy against the windows, and the wind howled faintly.Clara shifted in bed, annoyed by the sound.Jamie whispered,“Do you hear that?”She snapped,“It’s just the wind.”But the noise grew stranger, like whispers crawling through the walls.Clara pulled the blanket over her head, pretending not to care.Jamie clutched his pillow, eyes wide with fear. The whispers grew louder, echoing faintly through the house.Clara muttered,“Shut up,”but her voice trembled. The floor creaked, though no one was walking.Clara squeezed her eyes shut, refusing to admit unease.
Jamie whispered,“Clara, something’s here.”She snarled,“Go to sleep.”The noises continued, soft and eerie, like footsteps fading in and out.Clara buried her head in the pillow, ignoring the chill in the air.Jamie whimpered softly, his voice shaking.Clara snapped,“Stop it,you’re pathetic.”The whispers faded, but the silence felt heavier than before.Clara drifted into uneasy sleep, her cruelty masking the fear she refused to name. The night stretched on,the house groaning with strange sounds.
Clara tossed and turned,annoyed by Jamie’s constant whimpering.She muttered,“You’re so weak.”Jamie whispered,“I saw something move.”Clara snapped,“You didn’t see anything.”The shadows shifted across the wall,stretching longer than they should have.Clara buried her face in the pillow,pretending not to notice.Jamie clutched his blanket,his eyes wide with terror.Clara snarled,“Go to sleep.”The whispers returned,soft and eerie,like voices calling their names.Clara muttered,“It’s nothing,”but her voice shook.Jamie whispered,“It’s the game.”Clara laughed cruelly,“You’re ridiculous.”
The floor creaked again, closer this time.Clara pulled the blanket tighter, her heart pounding.Jamie whispered,“It’s coming.”Clara snapped,“Shut up.”The silence pressed heavy against them, thicker than before.Clara closed her eyes, forcing herself to sleep.Jamie lay awake, his fear gnawing at him.The whispers faded, but the unease lingered.Clara dreamed of shadows crawling across the walls, her cruelty echoing in the dark. She muttered in her sleep,“You’re pathetic.”Jamie whispered softly,“I’m scared.”The night dragged on,filled with strange noises and heavy silence.
Clara refused to admit her fear, masking it with cruelty.Jamie trembled, his eyes wide, watching the shadows stretch across the room. The wind rattled the windows, shaking the glass.Clara groaned,“It’s just the storm.”Jamie whispered,“It’s not the storm.”The floorboards creaked again, slow and deliberate.Clara snapped,“Go back to sleep.”Jamie clutched his blanket tighter, his breathing shallow.Clara rolled her eyes,“You’re pathetic.”The whispers returned, soft and eerie, like voices calling their names.Clara muttered,“It’s nothing,”but her voice shook.Jamie whispered,“It’s the game.”Clara laughed cruelly,“You’re ridiculous.”The floor creaked again, closer this time.Clara pulled the blanket tighter, her heart pounding.
