Redefines slow burn in glacial terms

"This had a good plotline, I truly enjoy shifter stories and decided to give this a try. The FL suffers growing up and is replaced by a supposed true daughter. I had hopes for it but the pace killed it for me. Two good things I can say is the author releases new chapters in blocks and is responsive to reader comments. It's the pace of the story and the blatant stupidity of the FL that are deal breakers for me. You are supposed to learn from your mistakes but the FL, Avery, keeps falling into the same manhole even though she sees it coming. She just thinks that this time it will be different. That's the definition of insanity. Another issue is her strength. Sometimes she's an Alpha, others she might as well be an Omega. It's maddening. Her former mate is either a sociopath or schizophrenic, I can't decide which. His responses to things are all over the place. I can't decide if that's intentional or if the author hasn't yet decided. I think this story is in the wrong genre, its set as a shifter, wolf, tale yet might work better as a romance novel. Take the wolves out of the mix and I think it reads better. Right now you have characters who never show their wolves and yet others who argue with themselves over who controls the body. It's confusing. At 60 chapters I pulled the plug on it, mostly because this screams 200 chapters to me, or longer as nothing of much note has happened yet. To the author, you have a good premise, but the structure needs work. Some of the characters feel unfinished so far and that drags down the pace. "
