Chapter 1
This was it I thought, as I gazed up to take in the intimidating ginormous building standing in front of me. The dark red bricks cascaded all around the building, it seemed as if the building could reach the sky but that was just an illusion because no building is that tall. The dark black gates that had cracked open when I first entered sent chills throughout my body as if I had just signed up for my ultimate death.
′I’ll be fine though, I mean I feel like this every new school year, and this is a new school in itself, so nothing new there’. My stomach though, disregarded my gentle coaxing thoughts, as every step of the way, it churned and twisted into a thousand knots; tangling and untangling.‘Well it’s now or never’I thought as I took a deep breath and made my way towards the grand entrance.
Even the door into the academy seemed much larger and intimidating than it had been when I first visited with my family; all dark with intricate designs surrounding the gargoyle handles. I pushed the handle, and set foot into the building, the mocha and white elongated tiles gripping my every step. I thought I was the only one in the building until a loud ‘BRINGGG’ hit my ear with a sudden force and a rampage of students in black and royal blue uniforms scattered all over the hallway, making their way to what I assumed would be their next class. People were crowded in corners forming little circles talking and laughing, others walking alone lost in their own world, a few scattered individuals struggling to take a hold of their thick bounded textbooks. I just stood there frozen, staring off into the world ahead of me, longing to go back to my previous school, where everything felt normal and comforting.
The students here looked like they all belonged here, everyone looked as if they knew each other since they were in diapers, a stampede of them indicated that the student body was going to be a large one. ‘Ugh how am I going to survive this’My hands started to sweat, and my mind started to whirl,‘too much noise, and too many people’I thought as my thoughts overwhelmed me. I couldn’t get myself to move, my heartbeat increased and the saliva in my throat stopped midway unable to slither down any longer. I felt like one of the statues outside the school until someone crashed into me so suddenly that I yelped a bit.
I came crashing down to the tiles, which definitely hurt like a bitch. I was so taken back that it took me a moment to realize that someone was talking to me. I turned a few directions trying to figure out who it was that bumped into me, but that was quickly resolved. I came face to face with a beautiful yet intimidating face that was masked in pure rage.‘Oh shit, I didn’t even make it to the main office, and I already pissed someone off’.I quickly got up, brushing my pants, and taking hold of my backpack straps as a comforting mechanism. I profusely apologized,
“I’m so sorry,” I said, looking into the intimidating grayish hazel eyes, though the eyes were nothing compared to the face as I took that in. The furious boy that stood in front of me was beautiful, soft light brown messy hair, with a structured jawline with visible cheekbones and light brown eyebrows, so piercing and full, with lips so luscious and rosy. Though the crease on his forehead definitely indicated his annoyance with me.
“You’re sorry? Don’t you know better than to stare off into space when the bell rings?”
He asked in annoyance, though his voice was deep In a perfectly boyish sort of way.‘Get it together Celeste, looks aren’t everything, clearly, this boy has no sense of a personality’I thought, and rude people annoy the crap out of me. I tried really hard to conceal my anger.
“Yes I’m sorry, but there is nothing else I can do but apologize and try not to repeat the same mistake again,” I told him very calmly yet passively, though the rage and annoyance were evident in my eyes.‘See when I get really pissed off, my anger suddenly turns to calmness even though on the inside I’m fighting off a storm.’
I guess my voice took him by surprise because he just shook his head and walked off. Well, at least that interruption got my rigid body moving again even though his response was completely unnecessary.
