Chapter 1-The Awakening

The sun shone brightly over the small town in Himachal Pradesh, India. Birds chirped outside, and the gentle rustle of leaves filled the classroom. Yet, for Erilf, the day felt unusually tense.

Sitting quietly at his desk in his new school, he tried to focus on the lesson. But the class teacher approached, her sharp gaze landing on him.

“Erilf, please stand up,” she instructed.

He looked up, confused. “Uh… may I ask why?”

The teacher frowned. “It’s customary to stand when being addressed.”

Erilf raised an eyebrow. “From where do you know my name? And… why must I stand? Can you explain?”

The questions kept coming, one after another, until the teacher’s patience began to thin. Erilf felt a familiar surge of anger building in his chest. His hands trembled slightly, and his eyes hardened.

Beside him, a steel water bottle lay forgotten on the desk. Without thinking, Erilf grabbed it and swung it at the teacher in a flash of uncontrolled fury.

At that very moment, the principal of the school happened to pass by, accompanied by his mother. Both saw the scene unfold, but Erilf didn’t notice their presence. His mother’s voice echoed in his mind, gentle yet emotional:

“Erilf… calm down, my son. This isn’t the way.”

But it was only a dream. Erilf was asleep, and his mother, concerned by his sudden movements, had gone to check on him before returning quietly to her duties.

When Erilf awoke at school, he was confused. The classroom looked normal, yet his mind replayed the strange dream. Outside, he saw a sleek, black Omni van speeding down the road. He wondered for a moment if it was part of some new adventure awaiting him.

The school day passed slowly, Erilf’s thoughts drifting constantly toward the mysterious van. By the time he reached home, he had made up his mind to investigate.

He called his friends, Akash and Miya, over. They arrived promptly, and the three shared a warm tea, chatting casually. Eventually, Erilf mentioned the van and the strange events from his dream.

Curiosity piqued, they decided to follow the route the van had taken, cycling through the narrow streets and winding paths of the Himachal valley. Their journey led them toward the Beas River, which cut through the town like a silver ribbon.

On the riverbank, hidden among abandoned warehouses and small factories, they spotted the van and a normal car entering a large, secluded building. Smoke and faint chemical odors drifted from the chimney. Erilf and his friends realized that this must be the warehouse where illegal activities are taking place.

“We should tell the police,” Akash whispered. “This is serious. Drugs… maybe worse.”

“Yes,” Miya agreed. “We can’t confront them ourselves. Let’s report it first.”

Erilf nodded, but before they could act, he leaned too far forward near the edge of the riverbank. The wet ground gave way, and he slipped into the cold, rushing river, tumbling into the water with a splash.

Akash and Miya reached out instinctively, but the current was strong, and Erilf was carried downstream. The friends watched helplessly as the river swept him away, their plan to report the warehouse delayed by fate.

As the river carried him into darkness, Erilf’s last thought was of the warehouse, the van, and the strange events that were pulling him into something far beyond his ordinary life.
