Summary

McKay, a devout Christian like Serwaa, had multiple dreams in which Serwaa appeared to him as his wife, but how could that be if she just regarded him as a brother. After several years of waiting and hoping she'd come to love him, he felt obligated to act before losing her to rascals who will only cause her misery, so he asked her over one evening and had his way with her. He knew he'd be sorry afterwards, but he thought that was the only way she'd agree to marry him. Of course, Serwaa's hopes were shuttered, thinking of how God could possibly allow such a thing to befall her. She agreed, but what happens after the marriage? MK noticed a different version of her and wondered if he was right about the whole thing. But could God have possibly cause Serwaa pain for no reason? ....

Chapter 1

was as though the entire world was shouting at him in his thoughts, but the only thing that kept ringing louder and louder was the fact that he loved her so much that he wouldn’t want her in the arms of any unworthy man, who would jeopardize her life. He promptly locked the door behind him despite his mind being blurry and her voice being labored, she asked why he locked the door. He remained silent and moved slowly towards her and though McKay knew what he was about doing would haunt him for life, he somehow believed it was the right thing to do. His phone suddenly rang it was his dad, which made his heart skip a beat then quickly he rushed to turn it off, sweating and already feeling guilty for what he had yet to do, Serwaa rolled over on the bed in an attempt to force herself up, pleaded with him to rethink his decision carefully and asked if he had forgotten that God was watching him. She reached out for a pillow, hit him with it and cried out, but it wasn't loud enough. Tried to push him off, but it was no use.

Earlier that day, Serwaa was on her way home when she ran into her former senior from school. Everyone referred to him as Mk, McKay or Kay depending on their mood. He had later become her teacher in Grade 6, and despite their age difference, the two had always been close.

Serwaa expressed her fears about not being in a relationship after years of waiting and praying for Mr. Right.

“That’s my problem,” she began. “I’ve been praying all the time for a godly relationship, but to no avail. Since all things work together for our good, I’ve left it in God’s hands not worrying about it, but instead praying and making my request known to Him, knowing He’s going to guard my heart and mind through it.”

“That’s the spirit. You’re using the Word,” McKay said.

Impressed by her knowledge of the Bible, he laughed and said he wished all ladies thought like her. At that point, her head felt like it was about to burst, flattered and feeling as though she deserved to take home a crown. "That’s Romans 8:28 and Philippians 4:6 - 7," she added.

At that point, McKay began shouting and cheering her on. “Herh! Punches… punches!” he exclaimed.

They couldn’t stop laughing.

She then asked him if God was punishing her the same way He was punishing him; since he too, was still unmarried.

McKay laughed and told her she would never find a suitor if she kept rejecting proposal after proposal, teasingly calling her a “hot cake.” But she playfully pushed him away, saying he had been doing the same thing, reminding him how he had turned down three teachers and even a cleaner who liked him at school.

McKay covered her mouth and told her, to be extra careful since he kept seeing her in a dream pregnant, wearing dirty and tattered clothes, and looking completely miserable. He urged her to pray about it. Then he added that he had also seen the two of them together in that same dream, living a great life.

She told him he would have been the perfect guy for her, but then laughed and told him to forget about it. McKay didn’t say anything after that. He simply urged her to be cautious and not let anyone ruin her future. He hugged her, said goodbye, and walked away.

He had admired Serwaa from afar since her school days. Her maturity at such a young age had always astounded him, and over time, he grew devoted to her without even realizing it. Years passed, and their friendship deepened but to her, he was like a brother. McKay walked straight to sip-and-drink bar afterwards, where he overheard a conversation that involved Serwaa. Agitated by this, Kay realized he needed to act quickly so he doesn't lose her.

A week later, after carefully considering his options, he took a bold step and invited her over. He offered her a drink awkwardly. Serwaa asked if he was okay, but he quickly wiped his sweaty palms on his singlet, which he wore over a pair of jeans. He looked as though he had just been spat out of a whale’s stomach and told her he had been cleaning the house.

A few minutes after drinking it, she began to feel dizzy. She told him she needed to lie down for a while, and he escorted her into his bedroom.

Serwaa was a reserved young woman, deeply committed to her Christian faith. People often marveled at how she maintained such a joyful attitude despite having lost both of her parents at a young age. She had been since living with her aunt and her aunt’s husband.

Serwaa worked as a receptionist at CAMPY, a well-known hotel, where she had been turning down most of the guys who approached her.

Kay’s parents owned Grace Ministry, the largest church in Accra. Despite having it all, Kay still wanted to make a greater impact on future generations as he placed it . So, after completing his pastoral degree, he became a teacher at the same school he attended as a child.

One day, young Serwaa said something that intrigued him. It sparked his curiosity about what was going on in that little mind of hers. Little did he know that, by paying attention to her, he was slowly growing attached
