BOOK TITLE:

THE LETHARGY AND LUKEWARM CHRISTIANS

A Call to Repentance, Revival, and Restoration

CHAPTER ONE

The Sin of Spiritual Lethargy and Secret Backsliding

This chapter confronts the dangerous state of believers who claim Christianity outwardly but live double lives inwardly.

Spiritual lethargy is not always loud rebellion; often it is silent compromise. A so-called brother who continually practices secret sins—masturbation, pornography, visiting prostitutes, sexual immorality, and hidden addictions—while still professing Christ is not merely weak; he is backsliding. Such a life reveals a pseudo Christianity, one that has form but lacks power (2 Timothy 3:5).

Secret sin hardens the conscience. It kills prayer, dulls conviction, and makes holiness seem extreme. Many in this state still sing in church, preach, prophesy, and even serve—but their hearts are far from God. This is lethargy: a spiritual sleep where sin is normalized and repentance is postponed.

Christ did not die to make us religious sinners; He died to make us free saints. Persistent secret sin is evidence that the fire of first love has gone out. Until sin is confronted, confession is made, and repentance is genuine, restoration cannot come.

Key Truth:

You cannot be walking in darkness and claim fellowship with Christ who is Light.

CHAPTER TWO

When the Congregation Exalts the Preacher Instead of Christ

A sick church is not always one without miracles; it is one where Christ is dethroned and men are enthroned.

In many congregations today, the name of the preacher is more celebrated than the name of Jesus. Members defend their pastors more fiercely than they defend truth. Sermons are applauded like performances, and the pulpit becomes a stage for personality, not a platform for Christ.

Paul warned clearly: “Was Paul crucified for you?” (1 Corinthians 1:13). When a church revolves around a man, spiritual growth stagnates. Discernment dies. Correction is resisted. Christ becomes secondary.

Any church where the preacher cannot be questioned, where Scripture is overshadowed by charisma, and where loyalty to a man replaces loyalty to Christ is spiritually sick.

Key Truth:

A true servant points people to Christ, not to himself.

CHAPTER THREE

When Money Becomes the Message

This chapter addresses one of the greatest signs of modern church sickness: the gospel of money.

When prosperity replaces purity, when offerings replace obedience, and when seed-sowing replaces repentance, the church has drifted from Christ’s heart. Jesus did not preach money as the center of the Kingdom; He preached repentance, faith, righteousness, and the cross.

A church where every message is about money, breakthrough, cars, houses, and financial elevation—but never about sin, holiness, the cross, or eternity—is not feeding the flock; it is entertaining greed.

Money is a tool, not a god. The moment money becomes the motivation of ministry, the anointing leaks out and manipulation enters in.

Key Truth:

Where money is exalted, Christ is diminished.

CHAPTER FOUR

A Gospel Without Hell, Rapture, and Holiness

This chapter exposes a dangerously incomplete gospel.

Many preachers avoid preaching about hell, the rapture, judgment, and holiness because such messages are uncomfortable and unpopular. Instead, sermons focus on buildings, certificates, titles, academic achievements, and earthly success.

But Jesus preached hell more than anyone else. The apostles lived in expectation of the rapture. The early church pursued holiness because eternity was real to them.

A gospel that prepares people for success on earth but not for eternity is a deceptive gospel. Buildings will burn. Certificates will fade. Titles will not enter heaven.

Key Truth:

If holiness is removed from the message, heaven is removed from the hope.

CHAPTER FIVE

Christ’s Call to Repentance, Restoration, and True Worship

This final chapter is a loving but urgent call from Christ Himself.

Despite the lethargy, lukewarmness, and sickness in the church, Jesus still calls:

“Repent and return to your first love.”

Repentance is not condemnation; it is an invitation to restoration. Christ wants His church back—pure, awake, humble, and Christ-centered. He calls both preachers and congregations to lay down pride, greed, compromise, and idolatry.

Conclusion: Do Not Exalt the Pulpit or the Pew

Do not exalt the pulpit—only Christ deserves glory.

Do not exalt the pew—church membership alone does not save.

Exalt Christ Jesus alone—in doctrine, in lifestyle, in worship, and in truth.

Final Call:

Now is the time to awaken from lethargy, reject lukewarm Christianity, repent sincerely, and return to the center of God’s will.
