⭐ CHAPTER ONE - Where the Smile Learned to Fade

BACKSTORY

She had once believed the world was kind—because her home was.Love surrounded her there. Respect protected her.She did not know then that kindness was not universal, and that outside those walls, she would have to learn how to survive.

At home, she was still a queen.

Her mother brushed her hair gently each morning. Her father believed in her future more than she believed in herself. Warm laughter filled the house—soft, familiar, unafraid.

But the moment she stepped outside, the world shifted.

Relatives began to compare her.

“She’s too proud.” “She thinks she’s better than our children.”

Praise became reluctant. Affection became something she had to earn.

She didn’t understand it at first.

Then school taught her quickly.

At school, beauty wasn’t a blessing—it was a target. Intelligence wasn’t admired—it was challenged. Girls smiled at her while sharpening their words, correcting her voice, her walk, her posture.

They called it guidance.

“You’ll never be accepted like that.” “ Trust us. We’re your friends.”

And she trusted them.

Slowly, she erased herself.

Her natural laughter disappeared. The clothes she loved stayed untouched in her closet. She taught herself to walk heavier, speak softer, take up less space.

And when the boys stopped looking, her friends noticed.

That was when they chose someone for her.

“He’s the only type who would want you.”

The relationship was loud, humiliating, and cruel. She learned how silence could hurt more than shouting, how public laughter could feel like knives.

One day, in a hallway full of noise, someone spoke quietly.

“Why are you still here?”

She turned .A boy she had never noticed. Ordinary. Calm. Unimpressed.

“If this is love,” he said, “being alone would be kinder.”

Then he walked away.

His words didn’t save her that day—but they followed her home.

That night, she cried until her chest ached. And for the first time, she didn’t ask why she wasn’t enough.

She asked why she was staying.

Leaving him didn’t heal her. It taught her to close doors.

Years passed. Friendships faded. Trust shrank. Loneliness became familiar.

Some nights, she wondered if love was something she had already lost—or something she was never meant to have.

She did not know yet—

that somewhere else, someone just like her was learning the same painful lesson.

And that the world, which had broken them separately, would one day try something far more dangerous.
