Chapter 1
My life is hell. I thought as I walked into the kitchen of the mansion. If I had not got with my ex I would not be with the mafia right now. I should probably explain how I ended up with the mafia in the first place.
2020
Waking up to my phone ringing, I didn’t even look to see who it was. “Hello, what do you want?”
“Georgina, its Tatiana I know you sound like you just woke up but can you come in early today because I need you to help train a new cook.”
“Fine Ana I’ll come in but make sure there is coffee ready for me.”
“Will do. See you soon.”
I slowly got out of bed and into the shower not really knowing what I was to expect from today. About 30 minutes I went downstairs where my mother Jaylene was drinking coffee and watching the news.
Something to know about my mother, she came from a mafia family. She refuses to talk about it because of all the history it has and just wanted out but she has taught me how to shoot a gun when needed. All that I know is that she met my dad at a fast-food place and started dating and once she found out she was pregnant, she wanted to get out. So, she moved states using cash to make sure she left not trace and changed her last name to my dad’s, which was McCarthy.
“Hey, what are you doing up so early? You are usually asleep right now?” my mother asked.
“Well, Tatiana called me asking if I could come in today to help train someone in the kitchen, I said yes if she had coffee ready.”
“Sounds like you, only wanting to come in if it involves caffeine.”
“I mean, she should be glad I didn’t start cussing her out over the phone for waking me up because you know I hate being woken up.”
“That I know.” She said while taking a drink. She looked over at the t.v. There was a special going on about the recent mafia activity in the area. I looked at my mother and saw that she went pale.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Is this the mafia that you were a part of?” I asked, while crouching down in front of her.
“Go to work. I will explain everything tonight. I just need time to figure everything out because my past is coming back and I really don’t want you to be involved in it.” She said while looking down at me with tears in her eyes.
“Mom, you know that you can tell me anything. I won’t look at you any differently. You are my mother, and I will always love you no matter what you have done.” I said back while standing up. I grabbed my jacket and keys and started walking to the door.
“If you need anything just call. I will pick up regardless of what Tatiana says.” I told her and walked out the door.
The drive to work was slow almost like I was stuck in traffic, but there was no one on the roads. With what my mother just told me, I’m scared for her and just want to be there for her. I pulled into Moreno’s Diner. I sat in my car for a few more minutes and just started thinking about my mom. I’m scared for her and want to be there for her.
After sitting for five minutes, I unlocked my car and got out. As I was walking to the door, I noticed a figure lurking in the ally behind me. I turned around and they disappeared. I shrugged it off and walked inside.
“Tatiana I’m here and there better be coffee.” I said walking in and heading to the office.
“Good you’re here, the new guy should be here soon. I told him to come in at 10.” She told me while sitting at the desk.
“So, what do you know about him so far?” I asked, looking at all the files that she had laying around.
“Well, I know he has one or two kids that he has to pay child support for now because he lost custody of them. He is 32 and he looks like he was an ex-addict.” She told me with a concern look in her eyes.
“Are you sure you made the right choice about hiring him? What if he brings in bad publicity? This is your family that we are talking about you don’t want that do you?” I asked while moving some of the files and sitting down on her desk.
“I don’t, so that is why I’m doing a trail and error, just to see if anything happens I will learn from it. That is why I called you this morning because I really want this to work out and you are the best person that I know that won’t take shit from anyone.” She told me while taking my hands.
Me and Tatiana has known each other for years. We have a friends-with-benefits relationship outside work, but it doesn't impact us professionally. “Well okay then we will give it a go and see how things work out.” If I knew what all would happen from then on I would not have said that.
“I don’t, so that is why I’m doing a trail and error, just to see if anything happens I will learn from it. That is why I called you this morning because I really want this to work out and you are the best person that I know that won’t take shit from anyone.” She told me while taking my hands.
