Small town girl: short stories

The 14th of may last year a blonde woman sat on her porch reading on her phone, "I am leaving this place" a message popped up on her screen, she felt confused so she closed the reading app then opened the messages, it's her partner saying to her he can't stay in this place anymore he is going to leave everything behind and leave somewhere far from here, somewhere if he told them his country name no one will know it.

The woman Sydney felt sad, anxious, tried to call him no response he left her too.

a year went by and finally she got a call from said partner:

"hey have you been all right?" he asked excited like she remembers him."everything is alright, how about you?" she replied asking him the same question out of politeness.

"guess what I had the approval, they approved my stay" he immediately said ignoring her question, she could sense his happiness at the other end of the call "great, you are a legal refugee now, congrats" she said complementing him with calm tone.

he paused for a second and said:

"are you okay why are you speaking to me like that?"

his voice was sad like a little kid, she always spoke excited to him, and he liked it this way, they were inseparable.

"like what I'm speaking normally"

she said with the same steady and calm tone.

he paused again and said:

"you know I did this for us, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't, do you know how difficult it is to be in a strange country? no you don't, so at least don't make it about you this time too".

He hung up the phone without saying bye to her.

her world paused for a moment.

he is arrogant, was he all along?

he is selfish, he wants recognition again after a year of not contacting.

The world moved again when she heard "honey I'm home" she smiled, her husband came back from his work trip, her pregnancy was tough on her and his presence was helpful in so many ways

After eating she told him about the call, he didn't get mad about it but said:

"he won't be back now, people whom can't work go to other countries so they can get food and shelter for free, don't worry about anything he won't harm you anymore".

Sydney figured after only 6 months how was her partner controlling, when he left everyone was approachable and nice, she didn't believe how much she was different.

In the end she got introduced to her now husband. Blessing of her life.

She replied: "yes I know, I have you now, you will protect me"

she said wanting him to confirm, so he said:

"yes of course my lovely wife, I will beat him up if he tried to come near you"

And that was enough for her she was happy.

The next day Tom the husband was in the house, he took the day off for his wife, she felt pain in all her body, he called the doctor and prepared all the house for the baby her screams were so intense but her trustworthy husband was there

it took them a minute to bring the baby from his mother's womb they called him Sammy pretty name suits a pretty boy.

her phone rang all the time when people found out she had a baby and they are both fine and happy.

She heard little cries beside her, she opened her eyes to see her little baby boy Sammy, playing on his own enjoying being on the bed alive and well hearing his own voice for his first time making symphonies with it.

The father came in smiling carrying a tray of the fruits, the doctor told him to make her something nice so he brought fruits and the chocolate to her bed, then said: "you are awake good let's eat something how do you feel?"

She replied: "tired"

Then she looked at her baby and said: "he is happy"

Tom replied: "yes, he has the best mother"

Then he helped her to sit, "I am making soup too, your sister brought food too but she didn't want to disturb you"

He gave her the first bite, they stopped thinking for a moment, they were both tired the wife physically and the man mentally, everything stopped except the baby's purring.

Realizing things slowly, they have a baby boy whom is happy to be part of this family, they always thought children aren't happy to be born but not this one they did a huge step into the higher level of being alive.

She looked around and said: "this is it, the feeling everyone wanting to experience, it's nice"

It wouldn't paused for the husband, and finally understood what it means to be contained with pleasure, a wife that is happy and calm and a son that is happy to be born in this household and so he replied smiling, tears try to gather in his eyes: "yes, it's nice".
