The Debt of Blood
(Julian’s POV)
I didn’t want a wife. I wanted a surrender.
The Moretti family had owed my Syndicate a debt for three generations. When the old man couldn’t pay in gold, he offered the only thing he had left: his daughter, Sienna. To him, she was a bargaining chip. To me, she was the daughter of the man who had ordered my father’s execution.
Taking her wasn’t about love; it was about the exquisite poetry of owning the bloodline that tried to wipe out mine.
The Arrival
She arrived at my estate in the middle of a torrential downpour, dressed in white silk that was ruined the moment she stepped into the mud of my driveway. She didn’t cry. She looked at the iron gates of my mansion like she was walking into her own grave.
I met her in the foyer. I let the silence stretch until it was a physical weight.
“You know why you’re here,” I said, my voice echoing off the marble.
Sienna lifted her chin. She had eyes like bruised violets—dark, defiant, and beautiful. “I’m here to pay for a sin I didn’t commit.”
“In this house, the blood pays the debt,” I replied. I walked a circle around her, like a shark scenting the water. “You aren’t a guest, Sienna. You are a reminder. Every time I look at you, I see the man I’m going to destroy. And every time you look at me, you’ll see the man who owns your every breath.”
The Rule of Three
I led her to her quarters—a room that was a masterpiece of luxury and isolation. I didn’t lock the door from the outside. I locked it from the inside.
“Three rules,” I said, backing her against the heavy mahogany door. The scent of her—lilies and terror—was intoxicating. “One: You do not leave this wing without my permission. Two: You do not speak to my men. Three...”
I leaned in, my hand splaying against the wood next to her head. I watched the pulse jump in her throat.
"Three: You never, ever look at me with anything but the hate you feel right now. Because the moment you start to like the cage, I lose my reason to keep you in it."
The Breaking Point
She didn’t stay quiet. That night, she found a letter-opener in the library and waited for me. When I walked in, she lunged.
I caught her wrist in a grip that I knew would leave marks. I twisted the weapon from her hand and pinned her against the desk, our chests heaving in unison. The friction between us wasn’t just anger; it was a dark, magnetic pull that defied logic.
“Kill me,” she hissed, her face inches from mine. “End the debt.”
“No,” I whispered, my gaze dropping to her lips. “I think I’ll keep you until you beg me to stay.”
