INTRODUCTION
So. Here’s what happened.
I was bored. Like dangerously bored. Playing Ark, absolutely not minding my business, when I started giving my dinosaurs personalities as a joke. Just casual nonsense. Harmless. Normal behavior.
And then my brain did that thing.
Wait. I’m literally a writer.
Which means this stopped being a joke immediately.
So now this exists.
The dinosaurs keep their in-game looks, but the names? Yeah. Some of those were fine. Others were crimes against storytelling and have been retired for everyone’s safety. They’ve been given new names—real names—because I refuse to write emotional drama about something called “Scarcely Lethal Horse Baby.”
I’ll introduce who’s who, what they look like, and then let them be messy on their own.
No lessons. No symbolism. Just dinosaurs with beef.
Stacy ruled the clearing without ever announcing it.
The grey Stegosaurus stood at the center of the valley, plates rising and falling with steady confidence. She didn’t bark orders or demand attention—she didn’t have to. Everyone already knew where they stood when Stacy was nearby. Her presence alone was enough to keep things in line.
She was the leader. Not because she wanted to be, but because no one else could do it better.
Iris lingered close behind her.
Green and white, quiet to the point of being forgotten, Iris moved like a shadow. Most of the herd barely noticed her unless Stacy did. She didn’t mind. Friends were complicated. Stacy wasn’t. That was enough.
Athena, unfortunately, was impossible to ignore.
She strode through the clearing like she was daring someone to stop her—tail flicking, expression sharp, attitude permanently set to irritating. Athena had decided long ago she was “one of the boys,” and she leaned into it hard. Too hard.
No one liked her.
She noticed.
She did not care.
Across the clearing, Rocco watched with barely concealed irritation.
Black and cyan plates bristled as Athena passed, and his jaw tightened. He hated her. Not casually. Passionately. Every word she spoke felt like a personal offense.
But Athena wasn’t the real problem.
Hearteu was.
Rocco kept his distance, not because he wanted to, but because wanting was the problem. His attention followed Hearteu far more than it ever should have, and that fact annoyed him almost as much as it scared him. Hearteu liked Stacy—obviously. Loudly. Shamelessly.
And Rocco hated him for it.
Hearteu, meanwhile, stayed close to Stacy, green plates bright with devotion. He loved her openly, fiercely, and without hesitation. Anyone could see that.
What no one noticed—what no one was supposed to notice—was the way Hearteu’s attention lingered just a second too long on Rocco when he thought no one was watching.
Athena?
Athena was still a problem.
The Triceratops pair watched the drama from a safe distance.
Zack—black and white, calm to the point of boredom—stood beside Juno, who was very much not involved and very happy to keep it that way. Zack had patience for many things.
Athena was not one of them.
Neither was Larry, the sabertooth, who existed mostly to vibe and judge silently.
Or Orwell, the ancient Carbonemys, who complained about everyone equally but Athena most of all.
Even Baby Tarnie, the dodo no one listened to, had opinions.
And all of those opinions were correct.
Because this wasn’t just a herd anymore.
It was a disaster waiting to happen.
