First day at school
⏰⏰⏰
My alarm buzzed. At the first buzz, I shot to my feet, did some quick stretches, and headed for the bathroom. It’s not like I could sleep anyway—I was too excited about my first day at Kennedy High. I had been eagerly anticipating this moment.
Before entering the bathroom, I grabbed my speaker. After connecting it to my phone, I played my favorite song, Dynamite by BTS. This had become my normal bath-time routine. I turned the music up to the highest volume and sang along.
🎶 So watch me bring the fire and set the night alight 🎶
“Whoo! Today is gonna be the best day of my life!” I squealed in excitement as I scrubbed my body.
I was on cloud nine, singing and dancing along.....
BANG!!!
I snapped out of my reverie. Argh! It was my mum.
“What the f— Mum! I’m naked!” I crossed my arms over my chest awkwardly, trying to cover myself. “Don’t you know the meaning of privacy?” I bellowed.
“I wouldn’t have come in if you didn’t turn the music so high. I tried calling you from downstairs,” Roseline said.
“C’mon, Mum, who cares? Just bear with me—I’ll be done soon, okay?”“Turn it off. NOW.”
“Argh! Fine, I’ll just reduce the volume.”
“Good. Hurry up and come down for breakfast,” my mum said before leaving.
I walked out of the bathroom as fresh as a daisy. After applying my body cream, I went over to my closet. Choosing an outfit for me is like solving calculus—I always end up in a fashion dilemma.
I picked five outfits and laid them on my bed.
“Which one should I wear?” I muttered.
After ten minutes of contemplation, I finally chose something simple, neat, and elegant—perfect for my first day of school. A soft sky-blue blouse with clean lines, paired with dark blue chinos, neatly pressed, and a light denim jacket.
After dressing, I slipped into my white sneakers and went over to my dressing table. I straightened my hair and curled it slightly, applied pink lip gloss, added a few accessories, and headed downstairs.
Breakfast was already waiting—pancakes with maple syrup and a cup of milk, as usual. My mum is a dietician, so she always makes sure we eat healthy. She nags anytime I eat junk food and has basically banned burgers.
Like, fr. 😒
She almost turned me into a vegetarian. If I hadn’t revolted, I’d be a full-on herbivorous mammal.
After eating, I hopped into my mum’s car, and we drove off.
“Anna,” she said.
I tilted my head toward her. “Yes?”
“Are you sure you don’t want a car?”
I sighed. “Oh, Mum, not this again. I’ve told you—I don’t want one.”
“You still haven’t gotten over that accident, right?”
“Yes,” I said quietly. “I developed a phobia.”
“It’s okay,” she said gently. “Just think about it, alright?”
I nodded.
Ever since the accident five years ago, I’ve been terrified of driving. I lost my dad that day, leaving my mum a widow at a young age. As a single mother, she’s tried her best to give me everything I need. She’s always there for me.
Honestly, she’s the best mum ever.
We arrived at school at 7:30 a.m. I hugged her quickly and waved goodbye before walking into Kennedy High.
The hallway stretched long and wide, lined with metallic blue lockers glinting under bright fluorescent lights. Posters and bulletin boards splashed color across the walls—announcements for clubs, sports events, and upcoming dances.
Students bustled around, some chatting, others rushing to class even though we were thirty minutes early. Locker doors slammed, and the faint scent of cafeteria food mixed with cleaning products hung in the air.
At the end of the hallway, I realized I had no idea where to go.
A cute guy with neatly combed black hair, sharp jawline, and brown eyes passed by. I stopped him.
“Excuse me.”
He turned.
“Um… where’s the principal’s office?” I asked.
He stared at me, clearly distracted. He scanned my face making me self-conscious
“Hey.” I waved a hand in front of his face.
“Oh—sorry! What was the question again?”
“The principal’s office.”
“Oh! I’ll walk you there.”
“Okay,” I shrugged.
“So, what’s your name?”
“Anna Johnson.”
“Archie Dunlop. Nice to meet you.” He held out his hand.
I shook it briefly and smiled. I wasn’t used to being this close to boys. I’d never been in a relationship—not because I hadn’t been asked, but because I wasn’t ready.
“This is it,” he said, stopping beside a door.
“Oh—thanks,” I said, smiling genuinely.
“You’re welcome. See ya.”He said and walked away
I knocked at the door and a feminine voice from inside told me to come in.I entered and met the principal at her desk.
She was a striking woman with a commanding presence, yet her warmth made her instantly approachable. Her dark hair fell in soft waves just past her shoulders, framing a heart-shaped face with high cheekbones that caught the light whenever she smiled. Her eyes were a deep hazel, sharp and perceptive, yet gentle enough to make students feel understood rather than judged.
She wore a fitted blazer over a soft blouse, paired with tailored trousers—professional yet stylish. A delicate necklace and simple earrings added a touch of elegance, hinting at her taste without being flashy. Her posture was graceful and confident, and the faintest lines at the corners of her eyes suggested both experience and kindness.
Overall, she looked powerful, intelligent, and beautiful, the kind of principal who inspired respect while still feeling like someone a student could talk to.I introduced myself ,then she gave me my schedule,a map to help me around the school and a list of extra-curricular activities to choose from. She gave me a little orientation before I left her office.
I used the map to locate my locker.luckily,it was the fingerprint type not the padlock type I used at woodsville.it was always annoying anytime I forgot my combination.Good riddance.I placed my stuff in my locker and headed straight for class.
