Chapter 1

The Bench That Listened

There was a bench at the edge of the park that never faced the playground.

It faced the pond instead.

People sat on it when they didn’t want advice. When they didn’t want answers. When they just wanted to say things out loud and let the air keep them.

An old man talked about a friend he missed.

A kid admitted he was scared to mess up.

A woman whispered a secret she’d never written down.

The bench never reacted. Never judged. It just stayed solid and warm from the sun.

One afternoon, the bench was gone.

In its place was a small sign:

“Thank you for trusting me.”

People still stopped there. Some stood. Some sat on the grass.

They talked anyway.

Because sometimes, it turns out, listening teaches people how to speak.
