Summary

In ancient Jericho, where the worship of Ba'al and the dark demands of Molech invoke unspeakable sacrifices, secrets simmer beneath the surface. Wrenna Ashford—a 21-year-old public health student from 2025—finds herself inexplicably transported to 1223 BCE. Awakening in the ruins of Eliel's tomb, she is thrust into a world rife with political intrigue and divine machinations, haunted by the traumatic legacy of child sacrifice that shapes this dark reality. Struggling to adapt, Wrenna forms a fragile alliance with Ashtara, a defiant innkeeper burdened by sacrifices made to protect her family from Ba'al's cruel demands. Together, they forge a bond that transcends time and pain, revealing strengths that spark the potential for rebellion against the oppressive forces threatening their lives. Amidst Jericho's chaos, Wrenna learns to navigate a society where loyalty and betrayal intertwine with every decision. Her evolving connections introduce complexities that challenge her understanding of this ancient world, as dangers unravel their precarious existence. Simultaneously, the Israelites, led by steadfast Mosheh, march toward their promised land. Confronted by physical dangers and their past actions, tensions rise with Yehoshua stepping into leadership. The intertwined fates of Wrenna and the Israelites draw closer, poised on the brink of upheaval.

Hello Readers!

I am excited to start sharing this work in progress story. Some things to keep in mind:

  1. This is not a completed story, and it is shaping out to be LONG.
  2. This is not my day job. I write when I can.
  3. Each chapter may be in various stages of editing and work. I don't have a folks that can read it consistently IRL and, therefore, they have not been through alpha or beta reads. I'm posting as I initially complete them. If I don't then I'll never release them and chicken out. Bear with me. Each chapter will have a notation of what phase it is in, and I'll announce changes on my community page as they come.
  4. I am open to all constructive feedback, even if it's not positive. But the key word there is constructive. "I hate the story" or "You're a terrible writer" is useless to me. I'm just going to assume you haven't actually read it to give a valid opinion. This is starting out as literally the roughest of rough drafts. Of course, there will be errors...big ones.
  5. New chapters posted weekly on Sunday at 7PM EST

Peace and Joy,

Amberly
