Chapter 1 - Ghosts of Zyphera
The void was silent, but the pulse of Zyphera still throbbed within Mara. Every heartbeat of the planet echoed in her veins, a rhythm that had become part of her body, part of her mind. Floating islands trailed behind them like shattered memories, fragments of a world forever changed.
Hara’s voice broke the oppressive quiet. “Do you… do you feel it too?”
Mara glanced at her friend. Veins still faintly glowing, ridges along her arms sharper, her movements more deliberate, Hara’s body trembled. “Always,” Mara said softly. “It’s not gone. Zyphera isn’t gone. It’s… waiting.”
Captain Vorel hovered near the bridge, scanning the void. “I don’t like leaving the planet behind. Something followed us. I can feel it.”
Mara focused, sensing the faint tremor in the dark expanse of space—the subtle pull of energy, almost imperceptible, trailing them like a shadow. “It’s not just Zyphera. The void is alive. And there’s more out there. Other worlds… other consciousnesses.”
Hara swallowed hard. “You mean… like Zyphera?”
Mara nodded, her glowing eyes fixed on the distant stars. “Yes. But unlike Zyphera, some of them may not want to teach—they may want to consume. And we’re their next lesson.”
The crew drifted silently, floating islands glowing faintly in their wake. Sparks of alien energy flickered in Mara’s vision, whispers of sentient worlds stretching across the void. Each flicker was a promise—or a warning.
Captain Vorel’s voice was tense. “We survived Zyphera. But nothing in this void survives without cost. Be ready. Whatever comes next… it won’t wait for mercy.”
Mara’s pulse quickened, syncing with the faint thrum of distant celestial bodies. “Then we move forward,” she said, determination sharpening every word. “We survive. We adapt. And we don’t let the void decide our fate. Not this time.”
Above them, stars flickered strangely, almost as if alive, veins of alien light stretching across the dark. The void was watching. Patient. Eternal. Hungry.
And Mara knew that their journey had only just begun.
