Chapter 1
The Map That Changed Everything
On the day the power went out across the entire town, Mira found the map.
She was cleaning the attic—not by choice, but because her parents said, “If you’re bored, make yourself useful.” Dust floated in the air as she opened an old wooden box tucked behind a broken lamp. Inside was a folded piece of paper, yellowed with age.
It wasn’t a normal map.
The paths shifted when she tilted it. Rivers slid like snakes. A red X pulsed softly, as if it were alive.
Before she could think twice, the map grew warm—and the attic vanished.
Mira stumbled forward and landed on grass so green it almost glowed. Tall stone towers rose in the distance, wrapped in vines. A silver compass lay at her feet. When she picked it up, the needle spun wildly, then locked in one direction.
“Guess I’m doing this,” she muttered.
As she followed the compass, the forest came alive. Trees whispered warnings. Glowing birds darted overhead. Suddenly, the ground shook—out of the shadows stepped a massive stone guardian, its eyes lit with blue fire.
“Only the brave may pass,” it boomed.
Mira’s heart raced, but she stood her ground. “I don’t know where I am,” she said honestly, “but I won’t turn back.”
The guardian studied her, then stepped aside.
Beyond it lay the red X—a hidden city powered by a crystal that kept the world balanced. It was cracking.
Mira placed the map against the crystal, and it dissolved into light, sealing the cracks. The city shimmered… and disappeared.
She was back in the attic.
The power came on. Everything looked normal—except the compass, still warm in her hand.
Its needle twitched.
Pointing somewhere new.
