Chapter 1– The Facility
Saira Bryer was in the mental institution, where she obtains her education since being in the facility. The law states that anyone under the age of fifteen through 18 must have some form of education. There is one room in the institution called Clairmount that holds the classes, it is bigger than a normal size room. This is where students not only do their homework but get graded for attendance.
The only reason why Saira was at the facility was due to her old life, mistakes of trustin the wrong individuals. The boyfriend, Nicolas De Luca that seemed to be the nice boy next door, but truth he was not even that. This young boy lured her thinking he was kind but in reality he was the son of a mafia Don lyiding about it, which cause a huge rift into the complexity of their relationship.
One must understand that Nicolas is the son of a Mafia lord himself, that being mentioned gave Nico enormous power at his hand outreach. They had been dating for over six months but nothing sexual had happened. Saira was a very reserved young lady of fifteen-years-old when it came to affection and showing it to the world outside. Nico did not push her at the time it was fine that she was not ready for a sexual realtionship at the time. They were young and being powerful can make those around them show teeth like sharks. People always want something they may not have or attack someone to obtain their goal like greed, lust, power. Those around them start with the desire to split them up, a girl who desire to compete for Nico attention. The one willing to lay with him and keep his attention by any means necessary.
Anna Torrent, always had her eye focus on Nico so she started to spread several rumors about Saira. The first one consist of Saira had been two timing Nico behind his back and becoming a whore. The second one was that she who was Saira selling mafia secrets but that did not work for Saira did not know about the Mafia association yet. Nico had believed Anna lies and did not even let Saira explain herself, soon enough a few days later he started to date Anna. The new complex dating dilemma had both Anna and Nico thick as thieves getting revenge on Saira. It was a very complex issue and his father caught wind of what was going on.
Saira remembers sitting down at the local italian restaurant eating her dinner, being sad, while the whole ordeal with Nico was going on. A scary looking man sat in the seat in front of her, what she did not know that this man would change her life forever. The man was the great Darren De Luca, some may say he can be extremely cruel, evil, while others say how kind he is helping other people out. It all depends on the business he may have to conduct and if the person is rude, what mood he may be in as well.
Darren was the one who had a evil glint in his eye towards Saira, for her punishment of betraying his son, he sent her to the mental institution. His warning was clear and precious to never come back to Clemons New York, which is located right outside of the main section of New York away from the airport area. When an individual leaves Manahattan they have a twenty to fourty minute drive until the individual enters Clemons, which is of a different layout. It did not matter if her parents would eventually die, Saira would never be welcomed or her future children into the city of Clemons again. Darren had one of his soldiers to bring her to the mental ward after beating the crap out of her, and breaking the nose on her face.
Saira was shipped from the state of New York to Michigan and could not tell her parents, that particular privilege was not given to her. One of the bodyguards sign her into the facility which is illegal but we one is talking about the mafia, and when flashing money people do shady things that are illegal. It is illegal because one needs a parent or guarding to sign papers not someone they met at a restrurant. Four-yerars of her time has been spent in the ward and tomorrow she leaves the facility for good being the prominent age of 18. All this was done due to someone being jelous of another individual, they had the idea of spreading rumors that were not true by getting what they want. The truth is that Saira never did anything against Nico nor did she cheat, conspire against him in any manner. The only guilty decision she did was choose the wrong guy who appeared that he was the boy next door but in fact was completely opposite.
Saira had been sitting in the common area, where the television of some mundane news station was screaming through the viewer. It was news about some establishment in New York that gotten all shot up by the mafia associates and various individuals had died in the process. Right there on the screen was Anna, the girl who stole Nico. She had blood running down her arm, saying she was looking for her fiance. Saira did not feel anger or rage anymore, she felt sad bit was their problem to solve. She was out of that life and the area of living there anymore.
Someone sat next to Saira named Darell Tuvella who was leaving tomorrow from the facility as well. He was a descent individual who had tattoos all over his body. She never asked about his past that is not how people operated in the ward, they live in the current moment. Focus on the object of at the moment or what the future may hold. He was her one friend here always asking how she was or when she felt down went out of his way to cheer her up. He never asked about her past but most people in the facility lived here at the moment, the past can not be changed. The here moment is where we live and the future holds consequences to the decisions we have made.
Darrell: “ Hey Saira, you good?”
Saira: “I am merely surviving here, suppose to be let out tomorrow. I am waiting upon Dr.Evans to call me in his office.”
Darell: “I heard the good news, your getting out of here tomorrow. I am leaving tomorrow as well! Has your sister called you to make plans where to stay yet?”
Saira: “I am not sure if my sister will let me stay with her after all I am the reason why our parents died. I got involved with the wrong individual and certain consequences were set into motion, such as the suffering of my parents. My sister had mentioned that she hopes that I am suffering for the rest of my short life that I may have left. There is huge doubt that she would help me in any way, so I need to figure out where to stay fast.”
Darell: “hmm..well I know my mom needs help with cleaning and you could stay at the house if you like? I know it is not the best future at this moment but it is a much better alternative than staying on the streets. For someone like you should not even have that option.”
Saira was not sure why Darell asking her this, and she was not sure if she could trust him completely. Trust was something that she did not always give in and questions individuals reason behind helping out. The truth is that it went much deeper for she did not trust herself to make the correct path in decision-making. He did make a solid point that it was better going with him than being reliable on the city streets. Thinking that if things did not go well, she always had the option opened to move out. This was merely to get back onto her feet and obtain her GED.
Saira: “Why would you help someone like me Darell, most individuals would not do that? I have no money to help with payments or family that would contribute money to bills. I would be more likely to be picked up and put into the system until my eighteenth birthday.”
Darell could tell the emotion of mistrust within her eyes, someone had hurt Saira badly and it was most relevant by her behavior when they first met. The walls she had were complex and high up on the ladder but slowly he made a little progress with her. She was a very loyal friend and that was extremely hard to find this quality in individuals now days. He understood the emotional abuse that was placed within her world from people she trusted the most, and this made her mistrust many people intentions, it is that reason alone why he was always so very gentle when telling her something.
Darell: (Lets out a breath of air that he was holding in his lungs). “I know what it is like to be out there in the real world, where no one is there to help out. You are alone, no one gives an individual a break because that the way the world works. The poor is frowned upon to even exist some it is by social status in the family and others choices of bad influence that were made. At some point, in our lives we have to learn from our mistakes that made. I do not want to see you doing the same mistakes or bad decisions that I had made. I would hate to know that you would end up on the street, or worse case someone took advantage of you.”
Darell: “Sometimes, we as individuals need a little help to obtain our goals or to help us get out certain situations. That being said, my own mother was asking about you, believe me when I say this that my intentions are good. I am not here to use or abuse you in any way but to offer something true with kindness. I will state this that at any time you do not feel comfortable or want to be there, we can make different arrangements to make you feel safe. The offer is real, it is true with no false lies behind it.”
Saira could tell that he was serious by his tone, there consist no flicker of a smirk or playfulness in his eyes. He seemed genuine enough about the offer, and she could leave at anytime if she did not feel safe. Still, she knew that one had to be very cautiously careful about this deal, she did not want to repeat history of how she gotten into the facility. This means keeping her walls up but if he prove to be a true friend, maybe she could trust him more. There was always major trust issues with Saira because Nico and Anna, she could not trust indviduals so easily.
Saira: “Are you sure this will not impose upon your mother?”
Darell: “You have seen how my mother likes to send care packages, letters and calls me here from time to time. She divorced my deadbeat father who was not even helping out, that being said, there is a huge amount of influence momma has upon me. Remember, when mom sent tamales and I had to share them before they would go bad. Darell laugh trying not to be too loud but people looked at him. My mother likes you who is not always trusting with people and is the one who is insisting that to make sure that you have somewhere to stay at. Especially, when it comes to get out here somewhere you can be safe for it is dangerous out there.”
Darell: “I have been out there once, when things were at the bottom barrel. My mother has been in my life regardless what choices were made in my life, it is hard in this world when one is just scraping by. My father left my mother for someone who was younger, and refused to pay her anything for the kids he already had. We were having a hard time, so I did what one had to do in order survive. I just do not want to see you in the position that I was once at.”
Saira: “If I had the desire to leave at any moment, that will not be an issue will it not? I want to feel safe in this that you mention and the fact your mother resides there is a plus. It seems like a legit offer to you have here.”
Saira is part mexican-native american and white heritage. She has frizzy curly hair that comes from the Mexican side of those who were of the Purpecan tribal individuals, hazel green eyes and with a European long nose. The common trait of oval eyes that come from many southern native tribes and mexicans have a prominent characteristic in facial features. Her mother side was the Purpereans, which came from her mother father. Her mother’s, mother was descent from the Aztecs side of the tribe Tahono O’odham tribe that once upon a time they were part of.
In the early centuries of the 1400’s there consist of tribal lands in three contents. Most individuals make the assumption that tribal lands were constructed through America. It was a very complex system in america full of various tribes that married one another, that ran into Mexico and Canada. The contents of Mexico and Canada had their own tribes and traded in America with bargain with one another even marriages occur. Many of the mexicans of today times, are descents of the Aztecians, Mayans, Purpecians and other tribes.
Darell: “Many of the families nowdays have that one individual who runs the family household, the matriarch or the glue that keeps them together. That is mother for you who she represents at least, there is nothing she does not know upon what her songs are doing, and we have one sister. She is the female leader that holds the glue together in the family, with all the holiday celebration. We will be leaving a week before christmas holiday and I can say mom is excited.
Saira: “Holidays are going to be so odd with me, please do not push me into anything, especially if it starts to make me feel uncomfortable. It has been a while since there has been a celebration of any kind, or a holiday. (Sadden face Saira makes), my parents are no longer alive due to some decisions that had been made, and so it has been hard here. At the same time, the reflections made one think upon the decisions made in youth that were huge disastrous mistakes. Maybe, one day I will tell you my story but right now it would be too stressful to begin the reason things happened to me.”
Darell was of Mexican heritage and he did not know much of the back history of his ancestry. He had dark black curly hair with brown eyes and various tattoos on his body. Many of the females in the ward tend to fall in three of the category. They fall in love with him, lust after him or want a one night of passion with him, and when he does not follow up they get their heart broken. Saira was not like other woman, the fact she did not trust individuals, she was more at the level of casual friends only. It was hard for Saira to even trust men and she was very wary of Darell intentions to begin with. She thought of him as a older brother, it was the only way she could slowly come out of her shell.
Saira name was called over the local common speaker that went throughout the whole ward, saying “Saira, please report to Dr. Evans office.”
Darell: “When you have the clear from Dr.Evans, pack your things up and I will meet you in the front of the facility at the bench.”
Saira had gathered her small notebook and a book that was reading to follow the nurse into Dr. Evans office. The room it was close to the common room off towards the side, where no one can hear the matters of discussion inside of the office. The office itself had a button that he light up for specific clients, this way there consist of no spying devices to hear certain conversations. Let no one fool them, but Dr. Evan work for the mob but he is looked upon as more of a businessman association.
In the order of even thinking about leaving the facility of a mental institution, everyone has to obtain Dr. Evans approval with a signature. This can be a hard task becaus he does not merely sign approval for just anyone. In fact, the individual who is being reviewed would have to work hard to even to be consider upon the list of potential people to leave the ward. Some may call Dr. Evans cranky but he just wants to help regardless of the circumstance. It does not matter how the person comes to the facility and he does not judge a person by the circumstance they got themselves into.
Saira sat in front of the doctor desk waiting for him to acknowledge her.
Dr. Evans: “How are you feeling today Saira?”
Saira: “I am hoping that today is the day I get to be released. Other than that, Darell said his mother wants me to stay with her and from what I hear of it that its a stable place. She is the one who sent me the sugar cookies from time to time.”
Dr. Evans: “I think you are ready for the outside world to enter. How are you feeling about stepping outside the doors?”
Saira: “I am very extremely nervous about stepping outside the doors here, what if I make a horrible decision in what happened before I got here?” My sister, she will not talk to me so if I make a wrong move it can cost me dearly.”
Dr. Evans: “Yes, I had heard about your sister not wanting to take you in. I am glad that Darell’s family is taking yu in and that it is approved. Remember this, to take one day at a time, you are in this moment. What we do today can reflect our tomorrows time start out small. If you are fearing about the decisions that are made ask someone for a second opinion.”
Saira: “What would be the next best of action in this path, and am i am going to be on as much medication that currently taking?”
Dr. Evans: “You will be taking only two mediation, a mood stability and one to take at night time to sleep. I would also recomend that you to conder seeing a counselor to talk to and a psychologist to prescribe your mediation. I have two weeks of your prescription waiting at the front desk for you. Is there any other questions you want to ask before you leave?”
Saira: “Since I am under the age of 18, who is going to be awarded towards my guardianship? I am asking beause my sister does not want anything to do with me, so I doubt that she has been given stewardship over me. I am asking because on my online school, I will most likely need the information of guardianship.”
Dr. Evans: “Here is the prescription, you just bring it to the front office at the bottom level of the facitlity. The indiidual at the front desk receiving the prescription should already have it all ready for you. Also, the paperwork for the guardianship is right there that will be your officcial coply. Darell, it was his mother who name is Maria that has guardianship of you. I do wish you the best of luck Saira and remember to stay out of New York, and you will do just fine.”
Saira leaves the office to gather her stuff and hand in the paperwork that needed to be given with her prescription.
