Threads of Light

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Melanie can see the threads that bind hearts and destinies. Hired to guide the Worthington sisters through a glittering social season, she expects intrigue, ambition, and fragile hopes—but not Henry Worthington, a sharp-tongued skeptic who despises everything she represents. To him, fate is a lie dressed in pretty magic. As rivals clash over love, choice, and truth, their mutual hostility ignites something far more dangerous: attraction. And when false bonds threaten to destroy what is real, Melanie must prove that destiny is not an illusion—even if it costs her heart.

Prologue

Each of us carries a thread. Thin and trembling, invisible to the ordinary eye—yet it is this thread that binds us to the Loom of the world.

For most people, the thread sleeps for a lifetime. They live and die unaware that every step they take leaves a mark upon the vast weaving frame of existence.

But there are those who awaken. Those who see the interlacing threads and possess the power to alter them. They are called by many names: life-weavers, who heal and untangle the knots of illness; shadow-weavers, who manipulate the wills of others; guardians of the Loom, who stand at the threshold between light and darkness, preserving balance; seers, who glimpse the threads of what may yet come; and elemental weavers, who reshape the very nature of matter itself.

They are born among us. They live beside us. We do not notice them.

For the world of magic is woven seamlessly into the human one. And even among those who wield magic, there is always a choice: light or darkness.

Some use the threads to create and to save. Others—to destroy and to dominate. Yet no thread is ever truly severed. Because we are all part of the same tapestry.

Among the thread-mages, there are exceedingly rare individuals known as the Patterned Ones—those who not only see the threads of life and sense their light, but can also discern the deeper pattern of fate itself. Their perception is so finely attuned that they recognize the subtlest shifts in human bonds, intuit hidden emotions, fears, and desires, and perceive the branching crossroads of possible futures—without imposing any of them.

The Patterned Ones do not foretell the future as Seers do, nor do they interfere forcefully like the Dark Weavers. Their calling is to untangle knots and help a person choose their own path. They are rare, for their gift demands flawless balance and immense inner strength: to see and to understand—yet never to compel. They remain a light in the darkness, even when all others have long since lost hope.
