Summary

Eimi Alinta-Kawasaki - known as Nixie by friends and family. Her hopes of becoming a pop star take her to a remote for rising singers, dancers and actors. She was aiming for quiet or the most popular, not the obsession of a boy. Or maybe, that's exactly what she wanted - LOVE. Just not the kind that left her breathless and trembling, not the kind that was so intense.

January 1 2026

Dear Diary, I can't believe that it's 2026 already. Last year went by so quickly that I wanted to cherish this one, so I started a diary. So, you probably don't know who I am. Let me introduce myself.

My name is Eimi Alinta-Kawasaki. But I go by Nixie with my friends. It's a name I found on Pinterest, which basically means the same as my real name. Nixie, in German, is "water spirit", and my name in Japanese is eternal ocean. After basically every teacher I've ever met says my name wrong, I just straight up tell them to call me Nixie.

It's implied that I'm half Japanese. My mom is Australian, and my dad is Japanese. I live in Australia, and I am going to year 9 this year. It's so awesome. I have two older brothers and a sister named Jessica, but we call her Jess. My oldest brother is called Kenzo (talk about a common name), and my other brother is Kai. Kenzo is in his second year of med school. Kai is in year 12. Jess is going to year 11. My dad is a dentist, and my mom works at the daycare down the street to help out with the community. I'm pretty sure we have a fifth sibling on the way, but no proof yet. We're not religious, but sometimes mum goes to the church to set up free child play areas or whatever you call it. I've never been.

I am so excited. There's still a month of holidays left, and I'm going to America for two weeks for a music audition. Hopefully, if it goes well, I'll get into the boarding school there. I honestly can't believe they're real. I always thought they were fiction. Best part? Maybe I won't have to wear a uniform there. I'll obviously miss my friends, but they're trying out too, so maybe we'll all go there together.

Some of my hobbies include reading. I absolutely love a good mystery novel. I used to read romance, but I'm so over that. We can always bond over that, and there will be occasional puns and mentions of them, but you know. I solve mysteries around the house sometimes, like who ate Milo's cereal. He's our cat. He has yellow blots, brown blots and black blots all over his smooth white fur. He is my best friend. Apparently, cat food molded into cereal rings tastes good because Kai's been eating them. Yeah. Gross.

Anyway, I've got to go. It's 2 a.m., and I have a flight to catch tomorrow. I'll tell you all about that on the plane.

Love,

Nixie
