In the year 1880, twelve‑year‑old Luna embarks on a train journey that will change her life forever. Orphaned by a strange and unexplainable sickness that claimed her parents, she is sent to live with a wealthy foster mother whose elegant mansion seems full of promise. At first, the rules of the household appear ordinary, but one command echoes louder than the rest: never open the locked door. When a wandering hermit places a skeleton key into Luna's hand, curiosity and courage stir within her. The forbidden door does not conceal evil, but rather truths about her parents' past - truths that shimmer with hope yet grow heavier with every secret revealed. What begins as a search for belonging soon becomes a perilous journey, for not everything is as good as it seems. Her foster mother is not the woman she pretends to be, and Luna's newfound friendships are threatened by shadows of deception. To protect those she cares for, Luna must summon strength beyond her years, risking her heart and soul in the process. As mysteries unravel, she faces the ultimate question: can she uncover the past and save her friends without losing herself to its dangers?

The Arrival

Here I am on the train to my new foster home. Oh, I didn’t see you there-hi, my name is Luna. This is my third home. Every time someone picks me up, they give me back-I don’t know why, but I will know soon. My mom died, because she got sick and my dad died too, because he got ill.

The train screeched. “This is my stop.” I quickly rushed to get out. “Wow, this house is huge.” I said amazedly, I knocked on the door and a maid came rushing out and opened it for me. An elderly woman came down the long stairs. “Hello, I am Mrs. Helen, your room is upstairs, and ground rules are-do NOT jump, run, yell, or open the locked door,” said Mrs. Helen elegantly. “What door?” I asked. “Now go to your room, it’s getting late,” said Mrs. Helen. I fell asleep very quickly. “I’m going to town,” I said enthusiastically.

I stepped outside, wondering around town, I saw a hermit. I tried to avoid the hermit, but he came to me and gave me a key that was shaped like a skull, and the hermit said, “A key to unlock freedom, but beware; for the owner is everywhere.” said the hermit. I looked away for a moment, but the hermit was gone. That was quite odd I thought. I went to the town, and I met some vendors and bought some clothes. Then, at about five o’clock, I went home, and I saw a girl enter the house. I went in and saw a girl in a wheelchair, and she had a walking stick. She slowly wheeled over to me and said, “Hi, I’m Lilith I had just arrived from Salem, Boston.” said Lilith cheerfully. “Hi, I’m Luna, I’m from Mayfair, London.” I spoke.

“We should get to our rooms, and we are also roommates!” Lilith said.

“Perfect! We know each other already!” I replied. Lilith tried to get to our room as a maid was trying to get her up the stairs. When nobody was looking, I tried to open the locked door with the key, but before the key touched the door Mrs. Helen passed by, I quickly grabbed the key. After that scandal, I quickly put it in my pocket.

“We are attending a ball, and the prince of the UK is attending! Also, I am going to call a designer to check you in for a gown tomorrow. By the way, the grand ball is tomorrow.” said Mrs. Helen excitedly. “Now go to your room,” said Mrs. Helen strictly. I went back to my room and went to my bed. The day passed very slowly.

Early in the morning, I quickly woke up to a huge splash of water from the maids. “What in the world was that for?” I exclaimed. “Mrs. Helen told us to wake you up with water,” said the maid desperately. “Okay I’m up.”

“Get dressed to go to town.” said the maid, then scurrying out the door.

About an hour later, we went to town and met the finest designer in Virginia! “Hi, I am Pierre Antoine from France.”

“Well, I’m Luna from London?” I said awkwardly. He measured me, and then it seemed like hours later, he made a beautiful waist ruffle purple gown! “Do you like it?” said Pierre in an approving voice. “It’s stunning! It’s p-perfect!” I exclaimed.
