Prologue
“Is this how it all ends? After all the wonders I have seen, is this how I die?“ Amber thought, her vision blurring as a searing pain ripped through her head.
The pain seemed to radiate through her whole body, unrelenting, unstoppable. As Amber tried to get up and rejoin the raging battle, she noticed her hands were sticky and wet. To her horror, she realized by the metallic scent that assaulted her nose that it was blood — blood pouring out of her own body from a wound she couldn’t clearly see.
She tried to breathe deeply and get her bearings, thinking to herself: “This is not how I die! I refuse to die! I refuse to die after everything we have gone through! No, I will not die! I will live and enjoy life again!”
As Amber slowly got up, she could see that the fighting was still unfolding. She could see the others battling with all their might, but was it enough?
She could see Jade in the distance, her blond hair matted in blood, and it terrified her. Amber could see that Jade was wounded as well. She was limping, and she was covered in blood. Whose blood was it? Amber wasn’t sure, but there was a lot of it.
Hoping it wasn’t Jade’s blood, Amber got up and rejoined the fight. Her gaze kept wandering around trying to find him, but she couldn’t. She could only think, “If that arrogant idiot dies on me, I will personally see to it that he suffers.”
Even though this was a short prologue, I enjoyed reading this opening intro. The hooks were sunk and kept me interested. I look forward to reading the rest of the story and writing a 5-star review!
