Endless Void
The time pod was set to 45 trillion years in the future.
Two possibilities existed: Either the universe expanded, or it collapsed.
I found neither.
There were no galaxies, no stars, no planets, no life.
Just water.
Sonar didn’t detect a surface...or ocean floor.
My hands phased through the solid instruments on the control panel.
I swam out, expecting anything - rocks, fish, plant life.
There was nothing but floating bubbles glinting in my visor, cold and pale.
In the cold abyss, there was finality.
Silence.
When there was nothing left to discover, reality was complete.
Nothing existed but water.
