Chapter 1

Sky a normal University student is waiting for his girlfriend at a fancy restaurant because today is their anniversary.

Sky checked his watch again, trying to act calm like he wasn’t slowly dying inside. The restaurant was fancy, but he didn’t care. He’d planned this night for weeks. Their anniversary. Their special night.

And Jewel was late.

An hour late.

He glanced around like maybe she’d magically appear through the door, or maybe the universe would finally fix this mess. But the only thing that appeared was the waiter.

“Sir, are you okay? Do you want anything?” the waiter asked, sounding like he was trying not to laugh.

Sky forced a smile. “I’m fine. I’m waiting for my girlfriend.”

The waiter leaned closer, like he was giving advice to a confused child.

“Sir… you’ve been sitting here forhoursalready. If you want to wait, you should order something.”

Sky’s cheeks warmed.Hours?

He didn’t even realize it had been that long.

“I’ll get the carbonara,” Sky said, too fast, like he could hide the embarrassment with food.

The waiter nodded like he was proud of Sky for finally admitting he was alone.

Sky sat back down, staring at the empty seat across from him. The candlelight made everything look romantic, but it only made the emptiness feel louder.

Ten minutes later, the waiter came back.

“Sir, we’re closing now. You should leave,” he said, sounding like he was giving Sky a gentle push out of a store.

Sky stood up slowly, trying not to look like he was collapsing inside.

He picked up his phone.

A message from Jewel.

Sky’s heart jumped.

He opened it.

Jewel:Sky, I think we should break up.

Sky stared at the screen.

He didn’t move. He didn’t breathe. He didn’t even blink.

Then he tried to reply.

Nothing.

He sent another message.

Nothing.

His hands shook.

He looked up, as if the restaurant might suddenly turn into a dream and the message would disappear.

But it didn’t.

Sky stood there in the middle of the empty restaurant, frozen, like a statue.

Then he did the only thing he could think of.

He ran.

He ran out of the restaurant so fast the waiter didn’t even have time to say, “Sir, you forgot your bill.”
