Chapter 1
Ariana~
“Ma’am, you can’t go in!”
My eyes lowered at the small-framed woman standing in front of me, her arms extended. “Mr. Williams is in a meeting…”
“Meeting?” I scoffed. "Excuse me? I'm your boss’s wife!"
But the annoying secretary raised a brow—
"I'm sorry, I know Mrs. William, and you look nothing like her. If you want to see the boss, book an appointment, and return at a scheduled time."
‘Wait. What?’ The excitement in my heart faltered, and my brows furrowed.
I had approached this executive floor, my heels clicking softly, my heart full, a warm smile curving my lips, imagining his surprise— the way his sharp brown eyes would soften lovingly, the way he would pull me into his arms and kiss me, the way he would make love to me afterwards.
It had been so long, and I missed him badly. But his secretary was blocking my path just as I was only a few steps from his office, saying I wasn’t ‘his wife’, she knew.
Confused and upset, a small knot of unease twisted in my chest.
It was our third marriage anniversary.
‘How could she not know I am the boss's wife?’
"Look, tell Liam it is Ariana Williams. Don't make a mistake," I warned her, my grip tightening around the small orchid bouquet I used my six-month savings to purchase. My other hand was cradling the cake I had baked with so much love and excitement.
But she eyed me, disgustingly.
"Mr. Williams came in with his wife, you liar. Leave, and stop being so shameless."
I was stunned. ‘What wife? What the hell is she saying?’
“Don’t make me call security,” it was her warning me this time, rendering me speechless.
I placed the bouquet over my cake and tried to take my phone out of my small bag, but she pushed me, causing me to stumble backwards.
I gasped in shock.
“Wait for Liam to find out you embarrassed his wife like this,” I seethed, shaking my head but she rolled her eyes like I was bluffing.
“You? Mrs. Williams? Dream on!”
I stared in disbelief. But then I snapped, shoved her hard, and marched towards the office before she could recover. The door wasn’t locked as I turned the knob and pushed it at once.
Adjusting my countenance, I stepped into his office with a bright… trembling smile—
Right before me was Liam, groaning and seriously pounding into a woman from behind. The woman was naked from her waist down, bent over the polished mahogany desk that I bought, her familiar brown hair scattered all over it while she shamelessly moaned with each thrust.
‘This was the meeting.’
The bouquet slipped, and the cake box crashed to the floor with a soft thud.
I couldn’t breathe.
Liam's hands were gripping her hips as he drove recklessly in and out of her, with no shred of hesitation. And the woman was none other than my stepsister, Laurel Raymond.
The sight pierced my chest, with each of Liam’s penetration into Laurel, the sound of their bodies slapping against eachother, their colognes mixed with sweat in the air.
I held my chest as I began to choke. My heart was beating in my mouth.
Tears gathered in my widely open eyes.
“This can’t be real,” I whispered.
When his head snapped towards me, Liam did not flinch. Instead, seeing me standing there devastated, annoyance flashed across his hazel eyes.
No shame. No guilt. No remorse. No panic.
Laurel gasped as she saw me, but the corner of her lips had a cruel smirk.
She pretended to pull away from Liam, her eyes widening, but Liam refused to let go. He tightened his grip on her hips and continued to slam into her, groaning in pleasure as if he couldn’t get enough of her.
‘When last did he even touch me???’
I stumbled backwards and held onto the door for support. “Liam…?” I called, trembling, tears rolling down my cheeks.
He gave a final hard thrust, making sure to completely empty himself into her before pulling out and zipping up his pants. Laurel rolled down her skimpy gown.
“This… this can’t… be real. It can’t be… It’s a nightmare.”
“What are you doing here?” his voice cut through icily, causing my teary eyes to widen.
“What?” I whisper-gasped.
“Pick up your trash and get the fuck out of here, Ariana,” Liam stated sternly, pointing at my bouquet and cake on the floor by the entrance.
I grew pale like a ghost.
‘Trash?’
He walked up to me, grabbed my shoulder, and shoved me to the entrance.
“Why?” That was all I could mutter, all I could ask. My eyes were bloodshot, my face tear-stricken.
I did not understand. I thought everything was fine before now. What suddenly happened?
Laurel was watching me triumphantly. The way she always looked at me whenever she took something that was mine, especially something I loved dearly.
But not, Liam. This one broke me.
She and my stepmom made my growing up and life a living hell, till I had to leave home. And now, this.
She slowly raised her left hand, brushing off hair from her face, and my eyes caught a shiny diamond ring on her ring finger. She was deliberately flaunting her ring.
My heart stopped for a few seconds.
‘No, Liam won’t do that to me already.’
But she smiled and said, "Liam and I have been married for a year now.”
“…”
"We've been married for three years!” I yelled.
My wide eyes darted from her to Liam, but he wasn’t saying anything. Not a single reaction.
‘Isn’t he going to deny it? Won’t he call her a bloody liar??’
I was close to losing it.
“Liam?” I whispered, trembling. My world was falling apart.
He stared into my eyes, and everything in me was begging him to deny it, to tell me everything I had seen was a prank. I would accept it.
I would bake another cake. The bouquet, I’ll pick that back up, and the sumptuous dinner I planned and poured my heart into was still waiting for him…
But he leaned forward and whispered in my ear. "We were never married, Ariana. The papers we signed in court were fake. If you don't believe, go to the court."
Maybe I passed out, cause all I saw was my vision blurring out
"No way," I laughed.
I stared at the simple metal ring on my finger and laughed even harder.
No wonder he refused to give me a proper wedding, saying it wasn't necessary. And since I loved him too much, I was content.
No wonder he never let me go on business trips with him.
Liam gave me a fake court marriage and married my step-sister, my arch-enemy, for real. I was never Ariana Williams. I was never his wife. I was only a tool in his hands to build his company.
He deceived me all these years, and now he was discarding me.
"I gave you everything, Liam. Everything,” I whispered wretchedly in tears, my heart repeatedly breaking into a million pieces. “You can’t do this to me.”
I tried to touch him, but he ducked away like I was a plague.
“Why do you fuck me so hard if none of what we had is real?!”
Laurel, her expression shifted. But then Liam scoffed. “When last did I touch you, Ariana?”
Laurel busted out laughing.
I lost my footing and staggered backwards. I nearly fell to the floor. I had to hold onto the doorknob for support.
He leaned closer. “You are horrible in bed. Your kitty hardly gets wet—” his eyes dropped to the lower part of my body while I gasped in shock. “And even when it does, you struggle to stay wet. You can’t even ride me for ten minutes, Ariana. Sex with you has never been awesome.”
All the color drained from my face.
He stretched out his hand to Laurel, who seductively walked up to us.
I could not believe he just said all that to me.
He drew Laurel to himself. “Unlike my baby…” he chuckled and continued. “She is pregnant too. Something you couldn’t give me for three years. You are barren!”
Something exploded in my head.
I wanted to just die. I was devastated was an understatement. Regardless, Liam continued to degrade, humiliate, and break me.
“You are nothing, Ariana, and no man will ever find you pleasing. You should be grateful for the years I even looked at you.”
That was enough.
I couldn’t keep hearing more of it. I turned and ran out in tears.
The secretary from earlier was still in the hallway. And the smirk on her face, I immediately understood the initial embarrassment.
It was Laurel.
Liam was right. I was nothing.
I had nothing.
But I had nothing because of him. Liam cost me everything: my life, my time, my finances, my savings, the loans I took, and the lands I bought. The flower, the cake, and the meal had cost me the last of it all.
All my sleepless nights.
Five years of sacrifices. Five years of loving him more than I ever loved myself.
I worked hard to build WillSoft Tech. Even till now, despite being a College final year student. But now that he was finally getting some recognition in the US, I was suddenly no longer attractive. I was horrible in bed.
I ran out of the company I built with my sweat and blood.
I bought the land!Staggering, my face a tear mess, my vision blurry, I did not care about the glances thrown at me by the employees. Thankfully, it was evening.
I got into my small truck and revved up its engine, making its usual tacky noise, and drove into the road. I just wanted to escape. Anywhere. Away from everything.
I have never felt so lost and miserable in my entire life.
