PROLOGUE
Trevor would later replay this moment in his head a thousand times.
Not because it was beautiful.
Not because it was romantic.
But because it was the exact second he realized how easy it was to mistake control for destiny.
If he had crossed the street ten seconds earlier—or looked down at his phone like he usually did—none of this would’ve happened.
Instead, the day is at its peak. The sun is out, shining bright, a soft breeze gently brushing against his skin and the waves from the beach across the street are calmly covering the shore. As Trevor’s walking down the street back from school, his gaze stops at the girl walking in front of him.
TREVOR’S THOUGHTS
Who is this? Is she walking in front of me, throwing her hips like that because she knows I’m looking? Is she inviting me to catch up and talk to her?
Trevor’s eyes seem to glow. He looks around ,but there’s no one in sight. Beneath the sunlit sky, it’s only him and the unfamiliar girl leading the way.
This must be fate. Only you and me here in this beautiful day. The sun is shining so bright and without a single cloud in the sky— this must be a sign the universe wanted us to meet. Right here, right now.
He starts walking faster as he’s trying to catch up.
C’mon, Trevor. Think of a plan. How can you make it seem like it’s fate for us two to meet? That sounds like I’m faking our first moments together but that’s wrong. The truth is I’m acting only the way I know the universe is telling me. After all, sometimes you have to take your luck in your own hands and push it just a little in your direction.
Trevor fastens his steps even more and suddenly he bumps himself into her. Books, keys and her phone fall down on the ground, scattering all over the place. She instantly starts collecting her stuff. She looks up, covering her eyes with her hand, trying to see who’s in front of her, helping her.
“I’m so sorry! I swear it was an accident. I don’t know where was I looking.” Trevor apologises with a note of unease.
“It’s okay. I’m sure you didn’t mean to.” She took her book that he lifted from the ground.
She reaches to take her phone and when she turns it around— what a pity, the screen is broken.
“Oh, man!” She sighs. “Great! It’s not even turning on.”
“I’m sorry. Was it new?” Trevor asked.
“No, I had this phone for years. I guess it’s time for a change. I was just trying to prove a point to my parents that I don’t need every new phone on the market that comes out because I appreciate functionality.” She explains to Trevor and a gentle smile rises on her face.
You are disappointed. I can read it on your face. Are you disappointed in me or do you think this is the dumbest way to lose years of dedication?
“Well, I’m sorry I ruined that for you.” Trevor smiles back.
An awkward silence follows and the girl starts looking around, uncontrollable.
Say something, Trevor! Anything! She’s about to walk away from me. I don’t want to make the broken phone an unnecessary sacrifice for me to meet her.
“So are you from around here? I don’t recall seeing you around?” Trevor breaks the silence.
“Oh, no. My parents and I just moved here.”
“In that case- I can show you around the town if you don’t have any other plans.” He suggests as he puts his hands in his pocket and bites his bottom lip.
“I don’t want to take any more of your time.” She blushes.
“I don’t have anything else planned, actually. I’m free to hang out.”
“Okay, fine. I guess that’s a plan then. I just have to drop these books off at my place.” She says and they both start walking down the street.
During their small walk, the conversation flows perfectly, like they knew each other for years. Minutes later they’re in front of her doorstep and she unlocks the door.
“I’ll wait for you out here.” Trevor smiles.
“It’s okay, come in. You don’t have to stay outside.” She goes inside and holds the door, waiting for him to get in.
“Are you sure? Would your parents be okay with me being here?” He looks around the place, as she closes the door.
Boxes everywhere. I guess you’re still unpacking so you’re freshly moved in. Am I the first person in town to meet you? I know I helped my luck a little but I guess it really was fate.
“They went grocery shopping. We won’t be here for long so it’s fine.” She starts walking up the stairs. “Come on, come with me.”
Are we going to your bedroom? Already?
The girl opens a door on the second floor of the house and after her— Trevor comes in. He looks around and his eyes stop at the paining above her bed. A face of a black cat with bright yellow eyes, staring at him.
So you like art? You just moved in and you already hanged a piece of you on the wall. Interesting choice.
“That’s a nice painting. Did you draw it?” He asks, looking at it.
“Oh, no. It’s from the previous owners. I decided to leave it up there for now. I don’t know the meaning of it but my mother says black cats bring her luck instead of the other way around.” She also looked at the art on the wall, after she placed her slightly damaged books on her desk. “I need to change before we go. These jeans are killing me.”
I’m not surprised. The tight jeans followed the trace of her body so good, I don’t even know how she could breathe in them. But I’m so glad she could so I can see them on her. I can only imagine what’s underneath.
“Okay, I’ll turn around.” Trevor swallows heavily. “Or I can go wait outside.”
Even though I don’t want to. But if you decide for me stay. I won’t peak, I’m better than this.
“It’s okay.” She looks up at him and her playful eyes moved from his eyes to his lips. “I’ll prefer for you to help me, actually.”
Is this real right now? Why is it so easy with you? Do you really feel that comfortable around me already?
Trevor’s heart starts racing, little drops of sweat appear on his forehead and all he can do in this moment— was stare with slightly opened mouth.
“C’mon... I could never pull these down on my own, I don’t even know how I managed to get into them.” She unbuttons her jeans and slowly pulls down the zip.
Trevor comes closer, and closer... and closer. He looks deep in her eyes and takes the hem of her jeans.
Is this an instant connection? Or are you always like that with new guys, hoping you’ll never see them again?
He looks up at her. She’s staring right into his eyes, with a gentle side smile. Her hair, falling down her tits made him imagine it wrapped around his hand. He pulls her jeans down making them hit the floor and red, laced panties appear in front of his eyes. He feels his mouth getting dry and his blood rushing to his cock. He now stands up and pulls her closer as he grabs the edge of her shirt. Now she’s almost an inch close to his lips. Trevor pulls up her shirt and her naked skin now is uncovered.
You’re so sexy. You know you’re sexy. You walking around without a bra makes me want you twice as hard.
He grabs her face with one hand and pulls her even closer to him with the other. They slow kissed. And then it got intense. And more passionate. And even more passionate.
“I don’t even know your name.” He whispers in between kisses.
“It doesn’t matter.” She moaned and lied down on her bed, pulling him onto her.
Before I came here, I thought I would’ve been all over her, unable to control myself. But I never felt so much control with anyone. I touched her with whatever speed I wanted, wherever I wanted, however I wanted.
I controlled myself.
Because I controlled her.
Later—much later—when he tries to remember when everything began, his mind will still return to that first afternoon. To the sun. To the empty street. To the girl walking ahead of him.
He will still call it fate.
But somewhere beneath the lie, the truth will remain—quiet, undeniable, waiting:
It was never the universe guiding his steps.
It was him.
