1. Blind dates and other disasters
Luana Sofia Dobre
I got stood up. Again. A-freaking-gain.
Why do I keep doing this to myself?
I know my best friend, Amory, meant well but signing up on this dating app for supernaturals was her worst idea ever.
This is my third failed date. I only wasted valuable time. Time I could have used going the classic route… And now the clock is ticking like a bomb on the brink of setting off.
At least we are in human territory, where I am completely inconspicuous. If only humans were a viable fix for my problem, my life would be so much easier.
“Miss, I saw you sitting here alone… may I cordially buy you a drink?” I suddenly hear a non-supernatural guy to my left say. His attempt at a pickup line makes me smile. Now, why can’t werewolf men be this cordial and respectful?
Before I can politely decline his offer, a gruff voice from behind me makes my knees go weak.
“The lady is with me. Beat it… Now,” the mysterious guy basically growls, and his voice zings through me. Heck, I almost melt into a puddle. Well, well, well… Would you look at that? My date actually showed up.
The human mumbles a weak ‘sorry’, in a comical haste to get to his feet without knocking over the chair. He then gets out of sight sooner than I can blink.
Still in a daze, I turn to my belated savior, looking him up and down…werewolf, 6’8”, built like a mountain, bad-boy vibe, dark hair, blue eyes. Though I would say, they are more on the gray side. Yup, checks the description in his profile. The pic was almost spot on.
And boy-oh-boy does he smell deliciously scrumptious. Even with all the surrounding disturbing music and noise, blaring lights, and indecipherable chatter, he grabs all the attention. Commands it, in fact. And I can’t stop staring.
Okay, so maybe there’s still hope. All I need now is for this gorgeous man to agree to spend three days locked inside a cabin with me, doing unspeakable things. To each other. Multiple times. Then, when it’s all said and done, walk away and never look back. Now wouldn’t that be glorious?
First, let’s see how he reacts to my no-dating rule. That’s non-negotiable and a deal breaker for me. No, sir. I absolutely don’t do relationships. No matter how ravishingly hot my date turned out to be.
Moreover, if not for this damn heat, I would never even entertain the idea of having a man in my vicinity for more than a few minutes.
Nope, nope, abso-dam-lutely not. Been there, done that, and almost lost my life in the process. All because I was naïve enough to put my faith in the man I loved.
Moving forward, it’s strictly business, as far as I’m concerned. A transaction, if you will, an enjoyable one for all parties involved.
You’d think any sane werewolf would be all over that. But nooo, I only find those who want soulmates, or chosen ones, or forevers. It’s like all the playboys out there suddenly became obsolete, a rare species. Or maybe they are just hiding from me, sensing my desperation.
“Like what you see?” the hottie in front of me asks in a teasing voice, breaking me out of my reverie. Shoot, how long have I been staring? Quick, deflect.
“Just making sure you fit the profile. And check all the boxes. The last thing I want is to go home with a serial killer. Or a warlock.” I reply with a smile plastered on my face.
There, that should distract him. Hopefully. Or not, considering he doesn’t say anything. He just blinks a few times, probably deciding if he should reconsider this whole thing. And to think I’ve actually put effort into this date. I even went as far as doing my hair and make-up and wearing my favorite blue sundress.
Damn it, I knew I should have acted more demure or seductive. But that’s out of my capabilities. I just don’t have it in me. And now, I’ve probably scared him off.
If that’s the case, I am done. With the app, with dates, with men. It’s high time I invest in one of those magic-imbued dildos and call it a day. Then again, it only releases part of the urge... and I might end up breaking it in one session. Not to mention, they are insanely hard to find and crazy expensive. But at this point, anything is better than dating.
“Huh, you’re an odd one, aren’t you?” He finally replies, laughing wholeheartedly. Then adds, with a wink, “The fun ones always are. As for the going home with you part… at least, buy me a drink first.”
Would you look at that... no lame excuse to run away? Now that’s an unexpected twist. And he’s funny on top of being gorgeous? Sheesh, this might be my lucky night. Okay, I can work with this.
I nervously giggle and nod, too flustered to speak right now. And judging by the sudden heat I feel in my cheeks, I might’ve blushed a little. Regardless, it does the trick. He signals the bartender down, and in no time, two shots are placed in front of us. I opt out of mine and stick with water because I drove here.
Sure, one drink would be fine, but I hate human liquor. Something about it never sits right with me. At my refusal, he shrugs and downs his shot, then mine. This seems to loosen him up.
He gets less and less broody and more talkative as the hour passes. We laugh at silly things humans find entertaining, like going fishing as a sport or posting strange, trendy videos online. Or watching them.
“Why even waste all that time catching a fish, just to release it? Who finds playing with food like that relaxing?” He bellows, and I can’t help but laugh.
“Right? But I have to admit, watching them is my guilty pleasure.” I say, wiping at the corner of my eyes.
“You don’t say?” He unabashedly stares me down. “Care to share more of your… pleasure-inducing activities?”
I gulp. Audibly. My brain is currently malfunctioning, and producing words is not an option.
Then all of a sudden, before I can answer, he pulls me onto the dance floor. And I quiver, my knees going weak, as he brings me closer. Our bodies move so in sync, it feels like we have done this a million times before. Everything is absolutely exhilarating, and there’s a zapping sensation, a magnetic one, bringing us closer and closer.
I abandon myself to this feeling, relishing in this moment of recklessness. When he lowers his lips next to mine and hesitates, I make the final step and bring them together. And for the slightest second, I swear my soul left my body.
He tastes so good, with his tongue coaxing mine, and I have the intense desire to rip his clothes off. What is happening? Is the heat coming in earlier?
Freaking frock, it has to. This kind of attraction isn’t something I ever felt before. And it’s too consuming to be a spontaneous occurrence. And when we pull apart panting, hot and bothered all over, every cell in my body screams at me to do it again, and again, and again.
Does he feel the same? Could it be one-sided? His face is completely void of any emotion, so I have no idea. We stare at each other a beat longer, still struggling to catch our breath.
By now, I am sure he’s going to go in for a second round, and I am all for it. What am I even saying? I am down for whatever he has in mind, if it’s going to be this amazing.
But he doesn’t. Shaking his head, as if to clear his mind, he begins moving us again, slowly falling back in line with the music.
However, the more we dance, the more unraveled he gets, and I think the alcohol got to him. When he begins stumbling and almost topples over, I suggest getting a bit of fresh air. This space has turned too crowded, and the heavy smoke makes me dizzy.
The moment we step outside the club’s door, I feel an instant unease. Not wanting to fall prey to my incessant thoughts again, I brush it off as me being paranoid.
It’s not without reason that I am always on guard, considering my past. But there’s no need for that, not tonight. I am as safe as I can be in this human town. No supernatural is insane enough to break that treaty. If only I could live here, my life would be far less complicated.
It’s probably just curious human eyes that are watching us and wondering how someone with my not-bulky fit can firmly support such a large man.
Speaking of his condition, it doesn’t seem to have improved. How much did he have to drink? Getting this inebriated on non-magical liquor is highly unlikely, so he must’ve pregamed hard before coming here.
Huh, did the prospect of seeing me actually made him nervous? That’s a first. Nevermind that now.
Maybe some water will help. I have some in my car. I pat myself on the back for parking close, so I start walking us in that direction.
“Whoa there, big guy!” I tell him just as we reach my car, and his legs falter entirely.
“Be calfuls…” he slurs unintelligibly, and I am taken aback by this turn of events. With some quick maneuvering, I barely get him inside before he completely collapses in the seat.
Okay, so maybe I slightly underestimated his drunken state. Oh, who am I kidding? This dude is minutes away from dozing off altogether. There’s no way I can have any coherent conversation with him now. Maybe I can still set something up through the app a few days from now?
That’s if he’ll even remember seeing me. Have I told you about my crappy misfortune streak? Yeah, it’s like the gift that never stops giving.
“Please remember me tomorrow,” I tell him, wishfully glancing over at him as I buckle my seat belt and get ready to leave. He doesn’t look very well, to be honest. And I should probably get his address before he’s really out of it.
“I promise you I am not some crazy stalker, but I really need your address.” Turning my head when I get no response to my request, I see his head hanging slack just as I pull out of the parking lot.
Well, shit! Pardon my French. I am not really the cussing type, but the circumstances called for it. What am I supposed to do now with a passed-out stranger?Okay, so he’s not an actual stranger, but I barely know him, let alone where he lives. And I highly doubt LunarBoy247 is his goverment name.
And it’s not like I can just leave him in my car. What if he wakes up and decides to hotwire it and steal it? Or worse, trash it in a fit of rage? Would he? I didn’t pegged him as a violent maniac, but I’ve been wrong before.
Frankly, all I know about him is that he’s funny, a good dancer, and a fan-freaking-tastic kisser. Seriously, I still have tingles thinking about our lips pressed together and his strong arms encircling me.
That’s why the prospect of spending my heat with him seemed oh-so appealing. A test-run prior would have been nice… but that’s not an option right now and I should really focus on the road.
And, speaking of my car, it might not be much, but it’s my pride and joy, the only thing I actually own. Not to mention, also my lifeline. I need it to go to work and reach my remote cabin on the outskirts of the town. No buses, heck, not even people venture that far out. They have no business to.
That’s where the rogue lives… aka me. And I consider myself insanely lucky to be allowed to. Most werewolf packs shun away and would never accept any rogues in their midst. That’s not to say the Moonlight Pack has accepted me. Far from it. They merely tolerate me due to my tie with the pack.
And I truly am grateful for everything they did for me. The alternative… Yeah, I don’t even wanna think about it. But that’s a story for another time.
Now, as I get closer to my cabin, I have to decide what to do with the mouthwatering man beside me. The best option I can come up with is to take him inside and lock him in my guest room.
Thanks to Amory my house is spellbound to me. Once I lock a door in my house, no one but me can open it. No matter the force or rank. If he wakes up tomorrow and has a problem with what I did, well, I don’t care.
He should have considered that before he got sloshed on a first date with a person he had never met before. He should be thankful I didn’t drop his behind at the sheriff station and let him deal with it… But I don’t want to get him in trouble.
Getting drunk in human territory is a big no-no for a supernatural, and it’s not treated lightly. I should know. Besides, he was actually a true gentleman tonight, and that feels wrong.
Stopping in front of my house, I go over to his side, and then, after huffing and puffing a few times, I manage to pull him out. Wow, he’s completely dozing off. No reaction whatsoever. It takes me a while, but I eventually more or less drag him inside and lay him in bed. Again, no reaction. Not even a little stir.
I, however, am drenched in sweat and have had the wind knocked out of me. Not really how I saw my night ending.
Taking one last look at him before closing the door, I head off to my room. At least in the morning, he’ll be sober. And able to speak. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even have a good laugh about this entire situation. Yes, this might end up working out perfectly.
I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

This is a good start 👌🏾
Love the witty, flirty banter between these two. A very interesting start! 😁
