Little Bug

Treading carefully along the rough dirt path, I finally arrived at my destination after what felt like an eternity. The world is so huge to a miniscule creature like me. I sighed as two bars of metal squeezed the life out of me as I attempted to shove myself in between the gap. Had I grown fatter? With one last mighty shove, I heaved myself out and crashed into the fake wood floor. Inside.

Food, food, food… this was the best place to feed our hungry bellies that my family knew about, but also the riskiest. I can’t be caught here. Forward. Turn. Forward again. This room was filled with objects to hide behind, thankfully. Brightly coloured objects littered the floor. I stayed hidden amongst them, most of the time. It was so much slower. Mother would have my head if I didn’t get back on time. Then the footsteps sounded. I almost screamed.

According to one of my brothers, this was the one who killed Father. I scanned the area frantically, my head weak with nausea. They aren’t supposed to be here. I’m not supposed to be here. I duck under some brightly coloured object, hoping that creature didn’t see me. Its eyes roamed around the room, searching. I rushed towards the next object, a blinding shade of neon yellow. From my hiding place, I can’t see anything. Father’s murderer walked closer to where I lay in fear. I couldn’t think clearly as he moved aside the object in front of me. I ran for my life.

Obviously, the creature spotted a tiny little bug racing across the room. Its hand slammed down, almost contacting one of my legs. I increased my pace. The hand came down again. I wasn’t so lucky this time. It crashed down onto my leg and tore it apart. My speed slackened as I winced in pain. I’d hate to die today.

The metal bars! Finally! I ran headfirst into the gap. Unfortunately, I hit the bottom bar. Hard. My head spun in circles and stars emerged from my head. Vision blurry, I attempted to haul myself up. The hand came again, but missed as it whacked the bar and shifted it just enough so I could get out. I’m safe, for now. Until Mother hears about this.
