Chapter 1
A Life Between Hunger and Hope
Sami was the youngest of three brothers in a traditional Pakistani middle-class family. Their house was divided into two levels: the ground floor, where Sami’s parents lived with the eldest brother and his family, and the first floor, where Sami and his middle brother lived with their respective families. From childhood, Sami had always been thoughtful, quiet, and deeply committed to his studies. He loved reading, especially philosophy and literature, and dreamed of a life where he could provide for his family and live with dignity.
After completing his education, Sami began working as an assistant manager in a local garment company. But circumstances forced him into a moral dilemma. Some officers pressured him to perform tasks that went against his principles, and when he refused, he had no choice but to resign. The moment his resignation became official, a new chapter of struggle began — a chapter defined by financial instability, emotional pain, and relentless societal pressures.
Living in the same house as his parents was an emotional battlefield. Sami’s parents openly favored the eldest and middle brothers and their children. They provided them with financial support, groceries, and guidance, while Sami and his children were ignored and, at times, actively disliked. When Sami and his wife went out for errands or work, his children were often scolded, punished, or denied even basic care. The sight of his children being treated harshly, while his nephews were pampered and praised, pierced Sami’s heart every day.
Despite these hardships, Sami continued to work tirelessly. He applied for countless jobs, attended interviews, and even submitted documents for a work visa to go abroad. But delays and bureaucracy kept him trapped. His debts grew, school fees piled up, and daily living expenses often went unpaid. Many nights, he and his children went hungry, forced to watch his parents provide generously for his brothers’ children.
The emotional pain was constant and cutting. His parents would taunt him daily with harsh words: “What have you done all your life? How long will you feed these children? Will you ever provide properly for them?” Each word struck like a knife, leaving Sami feeling powerless, angry, and heartbroken. He could not shield his children from the unfairness, and watching them suffer silently made every day heavier than the last.
Yet Sami never gave up. Every day, he rose before dawn with a quiet determination. He wanted to give his children a life free of fear, a life filled with love and respect, despite the constant obstacles. The struggle was unending, but Sami clung to hope, praying that one day he would secure a stable job, provide for his family without depending on anyone else, and finally escape the emotional cruelty that had haunted him all his life.
Even now, Sami endures. He continues to face financial burdens, visa delays, and the painful taunts of his parents. But if there is one request he has for anyone reading his story, it is this: please pray for him. Pray that he finds a good job soon, so he can feed his children, care for his family, and live without the daily cruelty of his parents’ words and favoritism. Pray that his perseverance is rewarded, and that his children grow up safe, loved, and respected, despite the hardships.
Sami’s story is not one of wealth, fame, or extraordinary success. It is a story of courage, resilience, and unwavering love — the story of a man who refuses to give up, even when the world seems determined to break him.
