In the last hours of the night, when the world was in a deep sleep, the broken moonlight was scattered on the stone walls of an ancient temple built on the high peaks of the mountains. There, a man sat quietly—Lan Wang Ji. The dust of time had settled on his white royal robes, but his eyes held the same pure glow that had shone in front of Wei Ying centuries ago.

Thousands of years had passed, empires had turned to dust, generations had ended, but in Wang Ji’s heart, time seemed to have stopped. Every night, he burned with the heat of memories, trying to hear the echo of Wei Ying’s laughter in every gust of wind. For him, time was just a countdown; real life had stopped the day Wei Ying walked away from him.

He looked up at the sky with trembling hands, where the moon was hiding behind the clouds. “I promised that I would never forget you…” His voice emerged as a faint whisper in the silent night. “And look, Wei Ying, I kept my promise.”

In the moonlight, his breathing seemed like a tale of another time. He stretched out his hand as if an invisible shadow were touching him. “Wei Ying...” he called out in a very low voice, “Will you come back?”

Suddenly, the faint scent of wild roses wafted through the air—the same scent that was part of Wei Ying’s being. Wang Ji closed his eyes, but tears welled up in his eyes. The world outside was completely calm, but inside his chest, a terrible storm of memories was raging. He was reliving each moment, each smile, and that last farewell look on the screen of his mind.

Times have changed. Centuries later, where there were once silent mountains, there was now the hustle and bustle of a modern city. Tall buildings, colourful lights, and a fast-paced life. In a small room in this city, a young boy stood in front of a mirror—Wei Ying.

His smile had the same old playfulness, the same mischief that made him stand out, but there was a strange emptiness in his deep eyes. It was as if a huge part of his being had been left behind somewhere. He often felt alone even in a crowd of people, as if he were waiting for someone whose name he did not even know.

Sometimes at some point in the night, he would wake up with a start, his heart beating so hard as if someone had called him by a centuries-old name. He would look at his reflection in the mirror and ask himself, “Who are you...? And what is this sadness that does not leave me?”

That night, as sleep took hold of him, he had a dream. The same ancient temple, the same blue moonlight, and a mysterious man dressed in white, his eyes filled with a sea of love and sorrow.

In the dream, Wei Ying looked at the man in surprise. “Who are you? Where have I seen you? Why does your face look so familiar?”

The stranger smiled, took a step forward, and very gently touched Wei Ying’s face. His touch was so real that Wei Ying’s soul trembled. He felt as if the thirst of centuries had been quenched in an instant.

“You finally returned...” The man’s voice was heavy with emotion. “I have waited for you for a thousand years, Wei Ying.”

The dream broke. Wei Ying sat up in a sweat. The moonlight was spreading outside the window, and on his lips was a name he had never heard before—“Lan Wang Ji...”

He sat up straight on the bed, his eyes fixed on the wall in front of him. His heart was racing. “Who was this? And how do I know his name?” he asked himself, but there was no answer in the silence of the room. A sense of unease had grown in his heart, as if he had to start an unfinished journey all over again. Wang Ji spent hundreds of nights in prayer and meditation in this temple. Every day he would sit in the same place where he and Wei Ying had last seen each other. He had an old Guqin, whose strings still seemed to search for Wei Ying in the mountains.

On the other hand, the modern Wei Ying tried to be absorbed in his ordinary life, but that dream had become a part of his life. He felt that he had to go somewhere where the ancient walls were waiting for him.

After emerging from this enchanting and painful dream state, it was always difficult for Wei Ying to return to normal life. He got out of bed and stood by the window. Cars were racing on the streets outside, but his mind was still trapped in the touch and eyes of this stranger.

“Lan zan...” he repeated the name once more. The name was new to him, but calling it felt like a noose was being tied around his neck.

Wei Ying was not alone in this life. His family was his greatest strength and sometimes his greatest confusion. His father, Wei Changze, was a kind-hearted man who worked as an accountant in a small company, while his mother, Cangse Sanren, was known for her liveliness and intelligence. The love between the two had made Wei Ying a free-thinking person, but Wei Ying often felt that his soul was wandering far away from them all.

The breakfast table was bustling as usual. His older sister, Jiang Yanli, who was known for her motherly kindness, was making soup for everyone. Seeing her face made Wei Ying’s heart feel lighter. She called him “A-shen” and understood his every worry without saying a word.

“A-shen, didn’t you sleep well again last night?” Yan Li asked softly, placing the bowl in front of her.

Wei Ying faked a smile. “No, Shijia (elder sister), just worried about the job, right?”

At the same time, her younger brother, Jiang Cheng, entered the room. He looked a little angry and disgusted as usual. “If you were worried about the job, you would have prepared for the interview instead of staying up all night. You have an interview at the ‘Lawn Corporation’ today, have you forgotten?”

In this life, Wei Ying was a bright but somewhat unconventional young man. He was interested in art and history, but due to economic circumstances, he had to find a job in the business sector. His personality had the same old magnetism; people were drawn to him wherever he went, but he could not connect with anyone.

His mother, Tsang Se San Ren, often said to him, “My son is not of this world at all. He looks like a prince from an ancient fairy tale who has lost his way.”

Wei Ying quickly finished breakfast and picked up his bag. Today he was to interview at the city’s largest company, “The Lan Group.” This company was famous all over the world for its discipline and strict rules.

Standing at the city’s railway station, he remembered the blue moonlight as he looked up at the sky. He felt as if something big was going to happen today. As if the thousand-year wait was about to end.

He didn’t know that the company he was going to interview for was owned by none other than the same person who hadn’t forgotten him for a thousand years.
