An End Without a Beginning?

"The author says he writes "hi concept with a heart," and I get a glimpse of that from this exciting, thoughtful story, The idea of robots who worship "The Living Shah" is a fascinating one, particularly how the robots view themselves--the work of men but the soul of the gods themselves. I like the narrator's dense perspective, how he refuses to understand the robots' perspective and in many ways, acts like a 19th century explorer among 'savage' tribes--he can only see how they're not European. The ending is clever, too, and leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger! My only criticism would be that this seems to be less a self-contained story than a scene lifted from a longer work, or a novel. It's missing the frame of the story: what brought him here, who he is, etc. I think the ending is perfect--a classic, science fiction ending, indeed. We just lack the wholeness that would make it a story in its own right, and I suspect that there is more to this story that the author hasn't shared with us. I would enjoy seeing the entire package!"
