A Chance Encounter
Title: Crossing Hearts
Chapter 1: A Chance Encounter
Amara had always believed that life in Lagos was predictable, but that afternoon proved her wrong. The city buzzed with its usual rhythm, honking cars, street vendors calling out their wares, and the distant laughter of children, but in the midst of it all, something unexpected caught her attention.
She turned the corner of Ikoyi Road, her mind lost in thoughts of work, when a sudden spill of papers startled her. “Oh no!” she exclaimed, kneeling to gather the scattered sheets.
Before she could finish, a tall figure bent down beside her. “Let me help,” a calm voice offered. Amara looked up, her eyes meeting his. Dark brown eyes, sharp features, and a gentle smile.
“I’m so sorry, these are all my fault,” Amara said, feeling her cheeks warm.
“Not at all,” he replied, handing her the last of the papers. “I’m Theo. And you are?”
“Amara,” she answered, still flustered.
Their hands brushed as they both reached for the final sheet. The moment lingered longer than either expected.
“You know,” Theo said, “sometimes the universe makes you pause for a reason.”
Amara smiled, unsure if it was the city heat or his words that made her heart race.
They stood there for a moment, a quiet understanding forming between them. A chance encounter, yes, but perhaps the beginning of something neither had seen coming.
