Chapter 1: Descend into Darkness

Descend into Darkness

Dr. Amelia Parks stood at the edge of the campsite, peering out into the dark, tangled trees. It had been weeks since they had entered the Amazon rainforest, and yet there was still no sign of the lost city they were searching for. Amelia wiped the sweat from her brow and took a deep breath, trying to shake off the sense of unease that had been growing within her. She knew that they were getting close, that they were on the right track. But the jungle was vast, and the ancient ruins could be hidden anywhere.

As the rest of the team settled into their tents for the night, Amelia stayed outside, gazing up at the stars. She had always been drawn to the mysteries of the past, to the unknown and undiscovered. And this expedition was the culmination of years of research, of digging through dusty archives and piecing together fragments of history.

But as she stood there, alone in the darkness, a new feeling washed over her. Fear.

She shook her head, trying to dispel the sudden surge of doubt. She was a trained archaeologist, a veteran of countless expeditions. She had faced down dangerous animals, treacherous terrain, hostile tribes. There was nothing to be afraid of.

And yet, the jungle seemed to whisper to her, a chorus of unknown voices urging her to turn back, to abandon this fool’s errand.

Amelia closed her eyes and took another deep breath, steeling herself for what lay ahead. She knew that the lost city was out there, waiting for them to uncover its secrets. And she was determined to find it, no matter what it took.

With a final glance up at the stars, Amelia turned and headed towards her tent, ready to face whatever lay ahead.

user-tYYAB62Jw9: I loved your/this story, thank you 😊 . Look forward to more writings. I was so invested in the kids. Curious who or which one is Annie's mate. Maybe Dylan since Collin is a werewolf. Although she'd also make a good Luna. Smiles 🙂
