Chapter 1: The King's Court
The King’s Court
Standing before the court of King Henry VIII, you feel out of place. The opulent surroundings – the red plush carpets and velvet draperies, the intricately worked tapestries lining the walls and the gilded throne – seems to emphasize your insignificance. You had been sent here by your master, the Queen’s Chamberlain, to prove your worth as a servant of the crown.
Your gaze sweeps around the court, noting the many courtiers gathered. Some have caught the eye of the King and are standing near the throne, while others maintain a respectful distance. You draw a breath and remind yourself of your mission – to protect the king from harm and himself from misdeeds.
Choosing your next step is difficult – do you make yourself known to the courtiers, presenting your credentials and introducing yourself as a willing servant? Or do you take a more subtle approach and make first contact with those in power?
Make yourself known to the courtiers.
