Chapter 1 In the Shadow Realm
Dark mist coils around shattered pillars. The ground trembles. Verissa’s voice roars in protest as her rage coil to strengthen her judgement.
Professor Verissa:
Vio—have you lost your mind?! This violates every law of conduct! Shadow magic is forbidden! You might be a child but I won’t just tolerate this kind of behavior.
Vio’s laughter echoes, low
Vio:
Don’t “Vio” me… haha.
You really don’t know me at all, do you? You and everyone else thinks I’m not important, average but no and now you’ll see how better I’ll be.
His eyes flair green.
Vio:
This world answers to me.
The air distorts, winds howl spiraling as the winds blew
Vio:
Vortex Range—Inferno!
A spiraling torrent of shadow-flame erupts, swallowing the battlefield.
Professor Verissa:
V–Vio…!
Her voice is drowned by the roar of darkness as her panic surged to betray her. Then everything goes black.
*Days Earlier *
Cante — Morning Light
Sunlight spills through the window. A calm town, untouched by fate.
Minamin:
Vio… I know you’re excited about the academy, but you really should slow down.
Vio tightens his grip on his bag, eyes shining with determination.
Vio:
Mom, this is my big day.
Only a handful get accepted—and I won’t let this chance slip away. Besides I always know what to do.
Minamin sighs, smiling softly.
Alright… just don’t do anything reckless, okay?
Vio grins.
Vio:
Yeah. I promise, Mom.
The wind stirs—unseen shadows flicker for just a second behind him.
Minamin :
I mean it. What would I even do with that kid.
At Fortale Academy
Vio steps through the city gates, the towering spires of Fortale Academy rising before him.
Vio:
This is going to be the best day of my life.
Fortale Academy—here I come!
The wind rushes past as banners snap overhead. Students gather, laughter and magic filling the air.
A faint shadow trails behind Vio’s feet… unnoticed.
The academy bells ring as a start of a new beginning.
Vio clenches his fist, eyes burning with hope.
For a moment—just a moment—his shadow moves on its own.
Inside Fortale Academy — Grand Hall
Hundreds of students fill the massive chamber. Magic circles glow faintly beneath the floor.
Professor Minten:
Welcome, one and all, to Fortale Academy. You have traveled far, and on behalf of the faculty, I extend my warmest—
A sharp tap of a staff echoes.
Professor Verissa:
Get on with it.
The room falls silent.
Professor Verissa:
The entrance exam begins now. This will be your challenge.
With a flick of her hand, arcane symbols ignite in the air.
Students gasp.
Vio’s eyes widen—excitement mixed with panic.
Vio (inner monologue):
So this is it… no turning back.
Behind him, a shadow pulses once… then fades.
On the stage
Professor Minten:
Verissa calm down your scaring the students
But Verissa is not hearing none of her concerns and gone on with her own agenda.
Professor Verissa:
Time starts now.
A glow so sidle illuminated the hall waiting forth what will come next.
