Prologue:

Some Memories don’t fade.

They wait.

Seventh Grade was supposed to be simple - shared benches, stolen jokes, one big group that felt permanent.

It was an age where feelings were innocent but real, and courage meant saying what your heart could no longer hide. That was the day KIARA SINGHANIA chose courage. She didn’t ask for promises. She didn’t ask forever. She only asked for honesty. But REYANSH SINGH RATHORE said -

NO.

Not Harshly.

Years Passed.

The girl who loved deeply and openly learned to build walls.

Success followed her.

Power wrapped her like armor.

Love became something she approached with calculation.

NOT HOPE.

She chose KARTHIK KHANNA.

OR so she thought.

On the day she was a bride dressed in silk.

No goodbye from Karthik - he disappeared.

Once again Kiara was left behind

And when the world expected her to break,

Fate made its cruelest move.

The man who stepped forward was not anyone.

It was Reyansh Singh Rathore.

The boy who rejected her.

The person she never needed again.

He came to STAY.

Because some stories don’t end at rejection.

Some don’t end in betrayal.

They begin again -

When the groom runs away,

And the one who never chose her

Chooses her in front of the entire DAMN WORLD…

Author: I thought a lot for the prologue this word limit ahhhh hate it ppl

CHAPTER 1 : THE PAST

Kiara’s POV:

Seventh Grade wasn’t supposed to hurt.

But it did.

It was supposed to be about shared tiffins, half completed homework, stolen glances during assembly and one big group that felt like family.

It was supposed to be easy.

But my heart didn’t understand - EASY

I had liked Reyansh for months.

Not loudly.

Just Carefully and Quietly.

The kind of liking that grows when you laugh at some stupid jokes, when your name sounds different coming out of their mouth. I never planned to Propose. But on Feb 14th, something in me got tired of hiding.

We all were sitting together near the basketball court -

Anu humming softly, Neha arguing, Myra being loud as always, Anisha writing something, Sara talking to me about the plan.

One big group with the boys too.

One SAFE PLACE.

My hands were shaking.

I remember Anvi looking at me through the phone screen earlier and asking - Are you sure about this?

I remember Anisha squeezing my hand and smiling like everything would be okay. And I remember thinking - If I don’t say it now, I never will.

Reyansh- I called.

My voice didn’t sound like mine. The noise faded.

My heart started pounding very loudly.

I stood up.

I didn’t look for anyone else.

Just HIM.

Only Him.

I looked at him. He looked surprised.

Just…CAUGHT OFF GUARD?

I –

My Throat Tightened.

I LIKE YOU.

The words felt fragile.

I continued,

I have liked you for a while. I don’t know how to explain it properly. I am not asking anything big.

I rushed, afraid of the quiet.

I just wanted you to know.

I stopped.

Because the look on his face changed.

To Hesitation.

I dont think….it is a good idea, he said slowly.

Each word landed like a drop of cold water.

Oh, Okay, I said.

That’s it.

No Drama.

No tears.

I sat back down.

Not even me - until later.

Reyansh’s POV:

I never expected that moment. We were just… US.

ONE GROUP.

LAUGHING.

Kiara stood up.

She looked nervous.

Everyone was waiting.

When she said she liked me, my brain went BLANK.

I felt Fear.Confusion.Pressure.

I said NO.

I told myself it is maturity.Logic.

She didn’t cry. That somehow made it worse. I kept stealing glances at Kiara after that. She was smiling and that didn’t reach her eyes.

I didn’t know that rejecting the only person who ever loved me without conditions. I definitely didn’t know that one day - I would fall for her when its already too late.

Kiara’s POV:

If someone had looked from outside, they would think nothing changed. Our gang still occupied the same place at the same corner of the classroom. Laughter still echoed loudly. Myra still brought Chaos Everywhere. But I felt it.

Space. Anu still stayed beside me, her presence calm and grounding. Neha walked with her usual confidence.Anisha joked non stop. Sara sat across from me during lunch. Anvi’s messages buzzed on my phone miles away, reminding me that distance didn’t break real bonds. I laughed. It felt lighter. And Reyansh? He and the boys were a part and still they are but not part of me Reyansh anymore. I didn’t hate Reyansh. I stopped hoping for him.

Reyansh’s POV:

The group hadn’t changed. But the balance had.

Myra kept the energy high, dragging everyone into conversations. Yajat and Devansh argued as always. Rajveer and Arnav teamed up to irritate Aaditya, while Rishaan pretended not to care. Sara noticed everything. She just sat calmly. Kiara looked steady. She smiled when Sara spoke, laughed when Anisha joked, leaning into her friends clearly. Without me. I thought Rejecting her would end the story. Instead it started something else - quieter and something heavier. A lesson I didn’t ask for. And by then, she might already be too far away.

Kiara’s POV:

I was scrolling through my Instagram DMS. When Anvi sent me a DM.

ANVI: Follow him. Trust me.

I frowned and tapped on the profile she tagged.

Karthik_khanna

Private Account

Mutals: Avni_k

I sighed. Here we go again. Before i could even overthink it, a notification popped up:

Karthik_khanna requested to follow you

Karthik_khanna sent you a message

I stared at the screen. The message was simple.

KARTHIK KHANNA: Hey. Anvi wont stop talking about you. So I thought I would say Hi.

I replied : She Exaggerates.

The conversation flowed easily after that. Nothing heavy. Just jokes , random stories, late night messages that made time slip unnoticed.

It felt…. Safe

There were no expectations attached to the profile picture. No past. No classrooms, Just words on Screen and the comfort of being seen. Anvi kept sending me messages, voice notes, teasing and half threatening me to reply properly. I did not know that some connections begin quietly.

Not with sparks.

But Comfort.

Comfort is all you are looking for until you mistake it for something more.
