"Not what I expected, and that ended up being a good thing. I clicked into ZomQueen: Ruler of the Apocalypse expecting something louder and more campy, maybe even a little tongue-in-cheek. What I got instead was a grounded, character-driven opening that leans hard into social dynamics, power, and survival. Honestly, that pulled me in faster than I expected. Zoe is not written to be likable right away, and I appreciate that. She’s sharp, status-aware, and unapologetically shaped by the hierarchy she ruled before the world fell apart. Watching her navigate teachers, former friends, and rivals before the apocalypse even fully reveals itself adds real tension and makes the collapse feel personal instead of abstract. The high school setting works surprisingly well here. Lockdowns, locker rooms, petty grudges, and unfinished math problems make the outbreak feel immediate and claustrophobic. When the danger finally arrives, it feels earned, not rushed. I came in expecting zombies to be the main threat. I’m staying because it’s clear the real story is about power, leadership, and what survives when the old rules stop working. Definitely curious to see where Zoe’s crown takes her next."
