Puppy Love
Walls that were made from red rusty blocks
Ground that contained the trash of snacks
Lovers walking hand in hand
Hoping for a bright future that might’ve been
Just out of reach
That “puppy love”
The love they felt when it was only the beginning
The laughter, the chaos, the risks,
Feeling the warmth light up from deep in your heart
When you once thought it disappeared
Every touch was something memorable
Leaving the butterflies dance in her stomach
While the shivers went up her spine
And the walls begin whispering
He’s changed, for better or worse
Crowds of girls surround him like he’s a feast
The thought of him leaving lingers
A constant drumbeat that only repeats
Waiting silently, for its awakening
The promises and wishes
That soon meant nothing to him
Tears that trickled down their cheeks
Glassy sheets that left them soaking
Lips joined, not in love, but a promise
