The Interview
The coffee maker sputtered its last drops as you stared at your reflection in the microwave door, fingers trembling while attempting to smooth down the brown-tinted ends of your black hair. The color had been aDIY job three months ago, back when you could afford small luxuries like box dye.
"You look gorgeous, stop fussing ," Aya called from the couch, her brown hair twisted into a messy bun as she munched on discount cereal straight from the box."
BTS Corp would be insane not to hire you."
"BTS Corp could hire anyone," you muttered, tugging at your one good blouse."Why would they pick me?"
Aya launched a throw pillow in your direction. "Because you're brilliant, hardworking, and you need this job before our landlord changes the locks. Now go before you're late.".
The subway ride to the financial district cost you precious dollars you'd mentally allocated for dinner. The BTS Corp building pierced the skyline like a crystal sword, all glass and steel and impossible dreams.
Your stomach twisted as you pushed through the revolving doors into a lobby that probably cost more than you'd earn in a lifetime.
"Interview candidate for the administrative specialist position," you told the receptionist, voice barely steady.
She smiled, perfect and polished "Forty-second floor.
They're expecting you.". The elevator ride felt like ascending to another world. When the doors opened, you stepped into a reception area with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. A woman in an immaculate suit greeted you. "Right this way. The CEOs will interview you personally."
Your heart stuttered CEOs.
Plural.
She led you down a corridor into a conference room where seven men sat around an enormous table. Seven pairs of eyes turned toward you simultaneously, and the air seemed to shift, charged with something you couldn't name.
"Please, sit," said the man at the head of the table, his voice deep and assured. He had an intelligent gaze that seemed to assess everything in seconds. His nameplate read Kim Namjoon. You sat, acteully aware of seven sets of eyes studying you
These are my partners. We run BTS Corp together." They introduced themselves one by one. Seokjin with his broad shoulders and warm smile. Yoongi, quiet but intense, fingers steepled thoughtfully. Hoseok, whose bright expression somehow put you at ease. Jimin, whose gaze was soft but penetrating. Taehyung, who looked at you with undisguised curiosity. Jungkook, the youngest, leaning forward with interest. "Tell us about yourself," Jimin said, and something in his tone made it feel less like an interview question and more like genuine interest. You launched into your rehearsed response, but halfway through, Yoongi interrupted. "Not your resume. We've read that. Tell us something real."
The request threw you of guard. "I... I live with my best friend in a tiny apartment. I'm here because l'm good at organizing chaos and solving problems, and because I need to make rent." Honesty tumbled out before you could stop it. "But also because I want to prove I can work somewhere like this. That I belong in rooms like this."
Silence stretched for three heartbeats.
Then Hoseok smiled, brilliant and genuine."I like her." "Let's talk about the position," Namjoon said, but something had shifted in the room's atmosphere. The interview continued, but you noticed things. The way Jungkook's eyes kept returning to you,How Taehyung tilted his head, studying you like artwork. The slight smile that never left Jimin's face. Seokjin's protective posture as he explained company culture. Yoongi's intensity when discussing your potential responsibilities. Hoseok's enthusiasm about having you on the team. They asked intelligent questions. You gave honest answers. The hour passed like minutes. "We'll be in touch soon," Namjoon said finally, standing. The others rose with him, a coordinated movement that spoke of years working together. As you shook each of their hands goodbye, you felt it. A spark,a connection, something inexplicable that jumped from each touch. Their eyes held yours a moment too long. Their smiles seemed too warm for a standard interview. In the elevator, your phone buzzed. Aya's text read: how did it go??? You typed back: I have no idea. Something felt.. different.
You didn't notice the seven men gathered at the conference room window, watching your small figure exit the building below.
"So," Jungkook said quietly."We 're all in agreement?
Six heads nodded. "Hire her," Namjoon said.
"Immediately."
None of them acknowledged the unspoken current running between them. The inexplicable pull they'd all felt the moment you walked through that door.
