Chapter 1 - An Unexpected Stranger
Eddie shuffled down the corporate hallway, his head lowered. He often tried to make himself look smaller but unfortunately he was always built taller and bigger than most omegas. In addition his athletic hobbies in high school didn’t help his body grow smaller either, but rather more muscular. But that’s to be expected of course. Eddie didn’t expect any less. He knew no matter what he does he’ll never be seen as an attractive omega so why even try? Besides, he likes his muscles.
Eddie continued through the hallways holding the latest file for the boring meeting he’d be sitting through. Despite having been working for five years out of school here, he’s gained not much respect. In fact, the recent alpha graduate hires have even gotten a raise over him. But Eddie guessed he shouldn’t complain being an omega and all, gracious to even have a damn job.
“Hiii Eddie!” A cheerful voice said as Eddie heard steps behind him.
Eddie fought the urge to roll his eyes. “Christian.” Chris surprisingly was a higher level employee even being an omega. But of course Eddie knew why Chris was so high up, it helps when you spread your legs to any alpha. Not that Eddie judged Chris for that, he mainly judged him for his annoying personality. But unfortunately Eddie and Chris had become friends, primarily due to being the only two omegas at the company.
Chris had a condescending smile on his face as usual. He adjusted his outfit, tight in all the right places. “Eddie, you have Friday off, right?”
Eddie slowly nods. “Why?”
Chris fidgets with his fingers as if he’s nervous, but he only does it for the innocent omega act. “I was hoping you’d come in so I could take that day.” He bats his eyelashes. “You know omega issues. I know you hardly ever deal with those.” He giggles. Then Chris does a big dramatic hand gesture as if it's a secret. “My heat.”
Eddie sighs. Most would be intimidated by him. Eddie towers over Chris, and yet Chris acts as if he’s taller than Eddie. Even though Chris is a mere 5’0. Chris is a very traditional omega. The type that would be on those stupid red-pill podcasts as the “ideal” omega due to his looks and a high value omega. Of course that is until they find out he sleeps with whoever to get ahead.
“No. This is my first day off in weeks.” Eddie grumbles.
“Oh come on Eddie! Please! I know you're on those heat pill things, but I’m not! And I’m spending the day with Mr. Brogan!”
Eddie narrowed his eyes. Of course Chris would fall back on his newest alpha and conveniently the vp of some department. That’s how Chris got to be Manager of…of a random department for whatever this company even does. To be honest Eddie wasn’t exactly sure what his company did, something with numbers and stock and business. And it’s not as if Eddie does any real work. He could be considered a glorified secretary. Eddie just gives a grunt, an allowance of Chris to take the day.
“Thanks bestie!” Chris cheerfully says.
Chris prances away, Eddie watching Chris walk with a hint of a sway in his hips and wondering how long Chris practiced that walk.
Finally Eddie managed to make it to the conference room. He pushes open the door with ease, and settles into a seat by the window, but behind the main conference desk so he’s sitting more like a bystander to the meeting. As the rest of the group trickles in Eddie glances at his watch wondering how long this meeting will be. One hour? No, 2 hours at most.
“Edward?” A voice says out of nowhere. At first Eddie doesn’t even lift his head, besides nobody talks to him in these silly meetings. Then unusually a shadow casts in front of Eddie. Eddie glances up expecting his supervisor, but to his surprise who’s standing over him isn’t his old boss, but a young alpha, probably about his age. Sandy blonde hair, blue eyes, nicely toned.
“Am I in your seat?” Eddie asks, already preparing to move his muscular body to another seat.
The alpha flashes a grin. “Edward Park?”
Eddie pauses, not many bothered to know Eddie’s first and last name. Most only know him as Edward or Mr. Park or the one that does all their busy work and they never bothered to learn his name. “That’s me.” He raises his eyebrow. “Can I help you?”
The alpha settles in right beside Eddie in the open seat with no regard to personal space. Up close, Eddie can see the perfect unblemished skin. Eddie’s eyes narrowed. No makeup it seemed, not like alphas even wore makeup but perfect skin. Damn. Eddie almost says outloud but holds it in.
The alpha is still grinning ear to ear. “I knew it as soon as I walked in!” He gives a big hug, his arms wrapping around Eddie’s body surprisingly. Most couldn’t give such a big hug to Eddie due to Eddie’s large size even compared to alphas.
Eddie groans a little under the tight hug.
“Don’t you remember me?” The alpha says a slight waiver in his smile, his eyes wide with an emotion Eddie couldn’t quite recognize.
Eddie shook his head. “I’m sorry, I really can’t.” He says as his eyes shift around, hoping this conversation isn’t drawing too much attention.
“Mr. Wallace, please come sit beside us.”
Eddie’s eyes flick up, a higher level executive is pulling away the alpha to seat him right beside the head of the table.
“Huh?” Eddie mutters to himself.
The alpha seems reluctant at first, but he eventually is led away to sit at the main table. The meeting starts and the alpha listens intently to the other lead alphas. Eddie opened the file scanning the figures, but his mind drifts to the stranger. Did he owe this alpha money? Maybe the alpha was trying to get close to Chris? Regardless of the reason, Eddie couldn’t help but wonder who this alpha stranger is.
