My First Day
I walked into work, mask across my face. Signs everywhere warned me to keep my distance, even though the store was nearly empty. My glasses were always fogging, and breathing was often hard. It became hard to stave off a sense of ennui when work was done. I'd always been a diligent worker, though now it would work against me. The cafe was closed, as per company directions, which was irritating. The back was my only relief, breathing was easy, and the tedium was lessened. At the end of the day, I stood outside, wondering, "How long will it last?"
