CHAPTER 1 : THE THRESHOLD
Lara POV:
I refreshed my email like my life depended on it-because, honestly, it kind of did.
When the acceptance mail finally loaded, my breath caught.
Congratulations.
skimmed fast, heart pounding, fingers trembling on the
trackpad.
Full tuition coverage.
I laughed Out loud... A sharp, broken sound that startled even me.
Then I scrolled.
Living stipend: minimal.
I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling.
So I could study at one of the most prestigious universities in Europe... but I'd probably be counting coins to eat.
Still, I whispered to the empty room, "I'm going."
••••
Prague:
The city was gleaming with a tint of mist everywhere Cobblestones gleaming after rain. Gothic spires cutting into a bruised-purple sky.
I felt the air relaxing me to the core
Prague was beautiful in the way that made you feel small.
I dragged my suitcase across uneven stones, my arm aching, my mind louder than the city around me. Every glowing café window felt expensive. Every passing student looked settled-like they already belonged.
I had to take taxi to the university
The taxi driver glanced at me through the rearview mirror.
"First time in Prague?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said, forcing a smile. "Hopefully not my last."
He chuckled. I didn't
It didn't take much time to reach the uni..from the outside it stood majestically facing me
It was like I have got travelled into time to attend a renaissance era university
Taking a deep breath I entered
•••••••
The dorms were full.
Every apartment listing I opened made my stomach drop.
Too expensive.
Too far.
"No students."
"No short-term stays."
By the third rejection email, I was sitting on the steps outside the university library, staring at my phone like it had personally betrayed me.
I hadn't crossed continents just to end up homeless.
That's when I saw it.
The listing didn't make sense.
Old Town apartment.Rent absurdly low and a roommate already occupying.
No guests. No pets. Night workers preferred.
I frowned at the screen.
"Either this is a scam," I muttered, "or I'm about to ruin my
life."
I called the number anyway.
