Introduction
I am an immigrant from what people usually call a “third-world country.”
As often happens, finding a job right away is not easy. But not working is not an option either: rent is expensive, groceries don’t buy themselves, and the refrigerator is a moody creature that hates being empty.
While I was still looking for a steady job, I decided to download one of the popular ride-hailing apps. I won’t mention its name — I don’t want to advertise anyone, or, even worse, get sued.
That’s how I became a taxi driver.
I don’t intend to offend anyone in these stories. I’m simply sharing, with humour, what I happened to experience behind the wheel. All names are fictional, and the characters are composite images, so please don’t try to recognize yourself, your neighbour, or your former son-in-law in these pages.
I hope you enjoy these short stories and maybe start looking at taxi drivers a little differently. Or perhaps at yourself as well.
I wish you light and cheerful reading. I hope this book brings you a smile — and reaches the final page without getting stuck in traffic.
