Chapter 1

Deep under the twisting roots of the ancient Yewield Tree, where the terrestrial and celestial realms meet in harmony, one could find the dwelling of the wanderer Din, hidden from the prying eyes of Elves and Dwarves. There he sat, bent over an age-old parchment, squinting as his very soul seemed to wrestle with an enigma inscribed therein. The parchment bore the cryptic hints of the fabled Orb’s location. As he pondered the significance of a passage that faintly glittered in the perishing candlelight — ‘heed the adage old, when obsidian meets gold’ — a whispered wind encircled him, humming with the throb of Eldor’s anxious pulse.

Yet, aloof from the rest of Eldor, Din, was the embodiment of solitude. His isolation, symbolic of an age-old attempt, by his ancestors, to divorce themselves from the endless cycle of quarrels and wars which consumed Eldor like a wildfire. The elf-blooded wanderer, however, his heart burdened with the onus had dared to seek the Orb of Aelerious, hoping to mend the severed threads of unity in Eldor.

Meanwhile, in the menacing stronghold of Nogar, the chaos wizard, tenebrous plots stirred. Reinforced by the widening fissure between the Dwarves and Elves, his chilling laughter would echo through the chambers, filled with grotesque relics of wars easily forgotten but for their deep wounds. His beady eyes glittered with unholy delight at the sight of Eldor’s disarray, the chaos he craved.

At the heart of the struggle lay the Orb of Aelerious, last held by Lereck, the blind dragon. The Orb’s heart pulsed with a magic potent enough to settle the bitter disputes of Eldor, or to plunge it headlong into catastrophe. Its flickering omniscience had seen the rise and fall of many, its wisdom revered and feared in equal measure. Lost in the sands of time, it was now a beacon for those brave enough to seek it.

Leaving the warmth of his homestead, Din set foot on a journey that few would dare to undertake. The road ahead was treacherous, adorned with legendary trials and menacing creatures, but for the sake of Eldor he had to brave them all. His cloak embraced him, shrouding his figure in the dimly lit forest, a silhouette against the moon’s enchanting glow.

The silence of the night was shattered by a haunting howl resonating through the forest. The wanderer clasped the rough handle of his sword, eyes adjusting to the night as they searched for his hidden enemy. An air of suspense had thickened around his quest, and only the stars remained as faithful witnesses to the tale about to unfold in the Shadows of Eldor.
