Chapter 1
Monalisa's POV
“Your name?” The woman’s voice cut through the room; cold, sharp, and very much not friendly. I stopped by the door. She was staring hard at me. Not just looking but studying me. Like she could peel me open if she wanted. Dark eyes. Straight posture. And zero warmth. Yep. Principal energy.
“Don’t you already know?” I said. “I was registered online. You’ve been…”
“Your name?” she snapped, cutting me off.
Wow. Okay. “Monalisa Varyn,” I muttered.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked me over from head to toe, like she was judging a bad investment. “Don’t bring that attitude here, Miss Varyn,” she said. “Don’t walk into Nova Academy acting hot and rich. I have sixty-five students under my care. All gifted. All beautiful. All super wealthy. I have no patience for nonsense.”
I blinked, unimpressed. “Can I at least get a seat?” I asked. “Not even my parents keep me standing this long.”
Her eyebrow lifted slowly. “Really?” she said, placing her hands on her hips. “Then tell me; why are you here?”
“My parents shipped my ass here to punish me.” Straight facts.
“Punish you for what?”
“I… I…” I hesitated, then sighed. “They said I read their minds and got offended. Sending me here is their way of… fixing me.”
She tilted her head slightly. “Was it an accusation,” she asked calmly, “or did you actually read their minds?”
I froze. Because the truth? I didn’t plan to read my dad’s mind. It just happened. One second I was angry, the next second I was inside his thoughts; seeing his wet fantasies about my mom’s PA. Things he later acted on. And yeah… I may have nudged my mom’s mind so she’d caught him in the act. Accidentally. Well, If you raise a psychic, maybe don’t keep a dirty mind around her. Just saying.
“Don’t.” Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Don’t you dare read anyone’s mind here,” Principal Drayke said firmly. “Every student in this academy has a strange ability. If they catch you invading their privacy, they will retaliate. And I will not allow reckless wars in my school. Do you understand?”
I nodded quickly. “Yes, ma’am.”
She stared at me again. Longer this time. I tried…just a little…to peek into her mind. Nothing. Blank. Blocked. What the hell?
Did she shield herself? Or was she just that twisted? Freak.
“Welcome to Nova Academy, Moon Crest,” she said finally. “This is where gifted heirs and future world leaders learn to control their supernatural abilities.” She turned and started walking, clearly expecting me to follow. “You are enrolled in a two-year intensive program. One break only. This is not a regular school. There are no lecture halls.” Of course there aren’t.
“Lessons happen everywhere,” she continued. “In your suite. At the restaurant. On the training fields. Even at the pool. Attendance at the weekly gathering in the event hall is mandatory.” She stopped and handed me a sleek black door card. “That gives you access to your suite. Go settle in.”
I took it. “Thank you, Miss Drayke,” I said sweetly. The second she turned away, I rolled my eyes, grabbed my suitcase, and dragged it down the hallway. Nova Academy. Moon Crest. Yeah. This place was already a problem.
The hallway stretched endlessly, my heels clicking softly against marble floors that screamed expensive. The buildings around me were extremely and glassy, shining like they belonged in a billionaire’s dream. Steel, crystal railings, and floating walkways connecting towers. Great. A luxury prison. I should be in Utoga right now, at my parents’ mega-billion villa. Lying by the infinity pool. Fighting with my mom over brunch. Or ignoring my dad’s existence. Instead, I was here in Nova Academy. Still… I hated myself for thinking it but this place was insane.
Students walked past in small groups. Laughing. Talking. And looking like models without trying. Perfect skin. Sharp jawlines. And confidence dripping off them. Were they handpicked or what? Was there an audition? I caught a few looks. Curious. Judging. Some amused. Cute. I rolled my eyes and kept walking.
Finally, I stopped in front of a door with my name glowing softly on the panel. MONALISA VARYN I swiped the card. The door slid open.
I stepped inside and paused. Okay. This wasn’t bad. A spacious living room. Soft lighting. A curved couch. A massive screen on the wall. To the side, a study room with a sleek desk and shelves. The bedroom was huge, with tall windows. The walk-in closet was ridiculous. And the bathroom? Marble floors. Twin sinks. A bathtub big enough to drown regrets in.
I closed the door behind me. “Well… not bad,” I muttered.
Still not home. Still not Utoga. But for punishment? They could’ve done worse.
I dropped my suitcase, kicked off my shoes, and fell onto the bed.
Two years. I sighed. “Welcome to exile, Mona.”
By morning, I was starving. Not cute hungry. Not I’ll snack later hungry. I mean my stomach might actually riot hungry. I sat at one of the sleek buffet tables in the lounge, coffee steaming in front of me while I waited for my breakfast.
The place was quiet. A few students were already seated looking calm, polished and elegant without effort. I watched them over my cup. Was elegance mandatory here?
Last night replayed in my head. After unpacking, I was exhausted. So I used the room intercom. “I’d like to order dinner.”
“Sorry, Miss Monalisa,” the voice said. “There’s no room service at Nova Academy.”
“What?” I sat up. “I’m tired. I want my dinner here.”
They read out the eating rules.. I argued. They repeated the policy.
I hung up. And waited. Nothing came. I didn’t even know the damn direction to the restaurant. I cried myself to sleep, blaming my mother for everything including giving birth to me with a power no one wanted.
Now here I was. Alive. Awake and still starving. I sipped my coffee. Too bitter. Figures.
The door opened, and two drop-dead gorgeous, tall boys stepped in.
Just like that, the room shifted. Every head turned. Conversations died mid-sentence. Even I looked up without meaning to. The air in the breakfast lounge felt different; charged, heavy, like something important had just arrived. No one needed to announce them.
The way students straightened. The way girls whispered and smiled too quickly. The way the space seemed to part for them as they walked in.
Yeah. I didn’t need anyone to tell me. These boys were stars at Nova Academy. And somehow, I had a feeling they were about to change my world.
