Chance encouter
It was Friday night, and the weekend had finally arrived. The air in the London nightclub pulsed with energy as 32-year-old Jonny strolled in, shedding the pressures of the banking industry for a night out. He was a striking figure: blond-haired, short, fair-skinned, with blue eyes behind yellow-framed glasses. His face was clean-shaven, and he was smartly dressed in a white shirt, a warm polo neck jumper, smart trousers, and shiny black shoes.
As the dance floor lights lit up the floor, Jonny's gaze swept across the bar. His attention caught on an attractive woman standing on the opposite side. She had brown curly hair with diamond-encrusted earrings radiantly sparkling from both her ears. Her hair was shoulder-length, and her eyes were a captivating sapphire blue colour, truly sparkling under the dance floor lights. A warm, glistening smile, very bright and a sparkling white colour curved on her lips. She wore a white polo neck sweater, smart black trousers, and black high heels.
They glanced at each other across the bar area, exchanging radiant smiles. Jonny, with a surge of confidence, strolled over to where she stood. His quick-witted jokes helped to break the ice, bringing a stunning smile to her face and his own. He asked her name, and she replied, "Jasmine," before asking him his. "Jonny," he said, and offered to buy her a drink. When he asked what she'd like, Jasmine said she would like lemonade because she doesn't drink alcohol at all. Coincidentally, Jonny also ordered a glass of lemonade, as he didn't drink alcohol at all either.
Suddenly, both of their phones buzzed simultaneously. They had each received messages from their work colleagues saying they wouldn't be able to make it to the nightclub.
"We are already here; we'd better not let this opportunity pass us by," they seemed to agree without speaking.
Jonny suggested, "Why don't you go and sit down at one of these tables?"
"Of course, we can," she replied.
They found two chairs close enough to hear each other speak above the music, as the DJ began to play and the dance floor filled up. They asked about each other's work. Jonny explained he worked in the financial services industry. When Jasmine shared what she did, Jonny was delighted to hear she was a bank manager. They also quickly discovered a mutual interest in pop music and club music.
He leaned across the small table, his voice lowered but firm, meeting her gaze. "Jasmine, this has been the best part of my working week, hands down. But I feel like we need a quieter venue to truly appreciate a good conversation. Could I get your number? Maybe we could try a coffee shop tomorrow, or perhaps a gallery?"
Jasmine's bright, sparkling white smile widened. She pulled her phone from her clutch bag. "I'd like that very much, Jonny. You're definitely worth cancelling plans for." As they exchanged numbers, the thumping pop music of the nightclub now felt less like background noise and more like the celebratory soundtrack to their auspicious first meeting.
