The Imperium Academy

Hi my name is Joseph Decus, and this was the story of me and my class on our journey to becominb heroes. Before you get confused, I live in a world where the entire population is born with one or multiple super powers designated as 'Cores'. The appearance of cores, supposedly dates back hundreds of years ago, around the time of the Middle Ages and was considered as magic, blessings or something supernatural. People with these abilities were known to heal and cure illnesses and protect their land from invaders, to the point where some were revered as gods and where highly treasured, respected and adored for what they brought to their homes.

But there were also those who were known to act quite differently choosing to use their powers for their own benefit through raiding villages, spreading illnesses and even causing natural disaster to fulfill their desires or simply for their enjoyment. Thus, this was where the battle of good and evil truly began. Since then, as society developed, evolved and began to stray from superstition, the battle of good and evil evolved into the everlasting bout of Heroism vs Villainy. A necessary shift, which came about as uof the continually evolving 'Core' related laws of society which was created to stop villains but were seen as unenforceable by the society itself so in turn the concept of Heroes was born to counteract villains. Thus creating the need for a continual income of heroes, thus resulting of a worldwide creation of the Hero Program and a united governing body of nations that oversee these laws as well as function to maintain order in the world, known as the United Coalition Of Nations. So this is how it went:

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing, went the alarm clock

'Ugh' I groaned while desperately trying to turn it off so I could go back to sleep with much success.

As I went back to sleep with a smirk after defeating the dreaded alarm bell, barely 10 minutes later I heard another noise coming from down stairs.

'JOSEPH ALEX DAMIAM Decus wake up you're going to be late for your first day of school.' Said my mom

It took me a second to process what my mom said, when it finally stuck, I jumped out of my bed, throwing my blanket into the air and rushed into the bathroom. In the middle of all that I ended sending my poor dog who was sleeping on my blanket, flying.

'Sorry, Flash' I said to the poor fella

With time running out I took a 3-minute shower, changed into my uniform which looked like averaged school uniform but instead of short pants I had black skinny jeans and on top of my shirt was yellow hoodie. After that I ran past my mom, took a waffle, almost forgetting my bag in the process and headed out the door. As my time ran out with only 5 minutes before the welcoming ceremony and the school was 20 minutes away. I thought to myself, if I should take a taxi but instead, I decided to use my powers

"LIGHT MANIPULATION: LIGHT SPEED" I said to myself and as everything around me started moving slowly, I raised my hood, got into a running stance and started running at high speed. All of a sudden, I was at the school and in a seat, in the school assembly hall.

'Hah, made it and with 2 minutes to spare' I said to my self

'Hey, long time no see joey, still love using that light speed, I see' said Jenny who was an old classmate of mine from primary school.

'Gasp, jenny how are you, how long has it been' I said in excitement

'About 5 years, I'm fine thanks' she replied

'You're taking the hero course too, that means we might be classmates' I said with a smile

'Let's hope so' she replied

As soon as we stopped talking, the room went dark, suddenly a figure appeared in the spotlight on stage.

'HELLLLOOOO STUDENTS AND WELCOME TO IMPERIUM ACADEMY'

'MY NAME IS CHERRY BLOSSOM, AND I WILL BE ONE OF YOUR TEACHER'S THROUGHOUT YOUR THREE-YEAR STUDIES' she yelled

'NOW NO TIME TO DILLY DALLY LET'S GET YOU SORTED INTO YOUR CLASSES' she said

After everyone else was sorted into their classes, she said

'Now would the following students follow me?'

She began Calling out names

'Let's Go Everyone, once again Welcome Hero Course Class of 2019' she said with a cheery smile on her face.

'First on the agenda, we have a tradition here at the school, where we make you show off your powers by completing a task, to see how adept you are at using them.

'Now all of you must use your powers to throw a ball as far as you possibly can. The only rules are that the ball must be thrown'

'First off we have Adelle Songbird, Core: Phoenix'

As she came forward, she whispered the words "Partial Transformation: Phoenix leg" as soon as she said that one of her legs transformed into a long bird leg. She grabbed the ball and launched it forward with a powerful burst.

'Next Gia Wells, Core: Gigantification' said Miss Cherry Blossom

She immediately began running forward, a few meters before the throwing zone we recognized that she began getting larger and larger until she was as large as tree. Miss Cherry Blossom handed her the ball which she just placed in her palm and flicked it like a paper foot ball

As the other's did their turns, one by one some amazing abilities were shown off there was a Cryokinetic, one of them had the ability to control nature, another who could turn into a flamingo, there was even one who had dominion over candy, another with the ability to shape shift. Then came my turn.

'Next, Joseph Decus, Core: Paladin' she said

I walked forward took off my hood and I used my light speed to boost my throw.

'Laaamme' one of them said

I smiled and whispered "GRAND BOW OF TRUTH, I SUMMON THEE" (which was unnecessary but I just wanted to show off) as soon as I said that a bow of light formed in my hands. "GODSPEED ARROW" as I shot the arrow which wrapped around the ball and propelled it further, I stood there with a smirk on my face after seeing their aghast faces. 'You were saying'

'Up Next Jules Brown, Core: Imagination Breath' we opened our eyes in confusion after hearing what she had announced. A tall muscular teen stepped forward, he reached into his pocket and took out a pen opened the ink cartridge but it was empty. All of a sudden, he took a deep breath and blew it into the cartridge, while uttering 'Manifestation, 5th form TYPHOON FAN'. Instantly the pen turned into a large hand fan, with minimal force Jules threw the ball and swung the fan creating a powerful burst of wind, propelling it forward.

'Ok that's new' Miss Cherry Blossom said in amazement.

'Now up next we have Laura Fairchild, Core: Absorption and Projection'

'Alrightie then, I need a volunteer, hey you what's your name, Joseph right'. Yes, I said, 'come forward and fire a light beam at me if you don't mind' she said with confidence and I in returned did what she asked. I blasted her with a small light burst, which she quickly absorbed it leaving me completely astonished which made me totally unprepared for what happened next. Laura took a deep breath and created a small ring of wind with a ball of light in the center, after creating that she threw the ball forward and muttered 'Dazzling Gust Cannon' which triggered the wind to blast the light beam with a higher velocity then when I originally shot it causing it to launch the ball forward like a fighter jet in the sky.

'Oh, I get it you have the ability absorb forms of energy or any non-solid elements and then project them back at a target with increased power and speed' I said in my theoretical voice, trying to understand what had just transpired before my eyes.

'Precisely, I'm impressed, you're as smart as you are strong' she said, while proving me right.

A few more step forward, everything was going great until the last person on the list was called......
