First Meetings
The wind blows freely over my fur as I run in my fox body, the snow glistening from the morning snow. The sun glistens in my green eyes as I move to a clearing of the forest watering hole, the wind softly blowing. As I approach the watering hole, I notice a dark wolf a crossed the way, his dark gray fur seeming to darken the area around him but there’s something in his deep blue eyes that seems to fascinate me. I keep my eyes on him as I drink, trying to keep quiet and unnoticeable. The wind softly blows once more, and I catch the scent of sage and slightly burned cherry wood coming from him and my heart softly flutters. The wolf finally looks up and our eyes meet, seeming to just now notice me and he tilts his head in curiosity and amusement. The wolf slowly approaches me and my tail bristles slightly, thinking that he’s going to attack me.
“Well, hello there, little fox~“, the wolf says, his voice deep and husky while his eyes sparkle with contempt,” what’s a little thing like you doing out here alone~?”
My breath hitches as his snout gets close to mine and my heart starts throbbing so hard that I think he can hear it. I gulp slightly before I speak.
“W-well, I-I-I just came out o-of my den to get a d-drink and I-I’m sorry i-if I intruded into y-you’re territory...” I stutter out as I shake slightly. The wolf softly and gruffly chuckles before he speaks again.
“Now, now little fox~“, he purrs,” The name’s Malakai and I think you’re mine now since you’re in my territory... Now what’s your name?”
“M-M-My n-n-na-ame i-i-is R-ryan”, I stutter out, my hackles are up a bit, and my tail is down a bit as well.
“Well, well, Ryan, let’s go to that little den of yours you said you had...” Malakai gruffly purrs. I nod and I start walking back into the forest with him right behind me. Malakai’s tail slowly sways behind him as he walks, and I keep my head down. After a few minutes we come up to a vine covered rock face and I use my snout to push aside to reveal a cozy over cropping.
Malakai surly chuckles and he says,” What a cute little cave~ Now don’t be rude, let me in~”
I softly sigh and I walk in first, allowing him to follow. Once he walks in, he immediately beelines for my small bed of furs in the corner, and I don’t do anything to stop him. I move to my little fire pit in the center of my cave, and I grab some dry sticks to add to it before I try to start up a new fire. As I move, I can feel Malakai’s eyes on me as I move, and it makes my tail bristle a bit, but I continue to keep my head down as I move.
“Little fox...~,” Malakai says in a sing-song voice,” Aren’t you going to offer me some food? I am your guest after all...~“. I sigh a bit before I move to a small rustic wicker box in another corner. I open the lid with my snout and I stutter out.
“W-what w-w-would you l-l-like? I-i have rabbit, some salmon and a little bit of deer”.
“Hmmm...~ I’ll have the rest of the deer, if you’d please slide it over.”
I do a tiny nod, and I grab the small slab of deer meat I have left, and I cautiously walk it over. “H-h-here you g-go”, I shakily stutter. Malakai grins before he swiftly snatches it out of my mouth and I jump back at the sudden movement, letting out a surprise yelp. Malakai watches my reaction with pure amusement.
“Aww~~ You’re such a scaredy fox~ It’s quite adorable to watch you squirm~“, he softly growls out which makes me shutter a bit. He starts to eat without breaking eye contact, and my instincts keep me in place.
